Pretty sure I’ve seen it said on this board to avoid any moving company with references to family or 2 men and a truck type names

The one in BR was absolutely terrible. The people they sent to my house were sketchy, smelly, annoying and did shitty work....Way too expensive for that kinda treatment. The person who owns the BR branch should feel guilty and ashamed of his business.

I'm going through the early stages of a home estate sale. House built in 1977. It's one hell of a job so if you can get 2MAAT to help pack, jump on it. Without help we'd spend weeks going through mom's big house.

House is on the market and wife starts talking about the “nightmare of packing everything up” and I look at her like she’s nuts. I tell her I have no intentions of packing a single box or picking up and carrying shite to a trailer. I’m hiring movers to do everything
boxing stuff yourself is going to save you time on the back end. I was a mover for 3 years in college, i wouldn't trust movers to pack your shite up in an organized fashion.

exactly a movers job is to get stuff from one place to the next. The workers don't really care about the organization of it, just that it fits in the box with a certain degree of protection from breaking. It is really easy to pack stuff when you don't give a shite about unpacking them.

Run.. Run... Run.. DO NOT walk from these idiots. I moved with 3 men and a Truck BR MANY times in the past 20 years, but my experience 6 months ago was absolutely unacceptable and horrific. Besides breaking things, not having a clue how to push heavy items up a ramp or correctly pack a truck, tracking mud on all my carpets and crashing a piece of furniture into a wall casing a $300.00 repair bill for sheet rock and paint. They threatened to leave halfway through the move because THEY had taken so long because it was TOO hot.. Not even kidding.
The new owners of this once great business truly suck.

It has gotten harder and harder to scarf up boxes. I agree the price of them is ridiculous. Try asking grocery/ABC liquor stores.
Call local grocery Family Dollar DG stores and see when they will have boxes- Food Lion will hold them for you.
Pretty much nowadays they are broken down already and you have to tape a bottom. If you go this route buy a good clear packing tape and magic marker to label the box.
Pack the kitchen last and eat out with paper plates. ALWAYS LABEL which KITCHEN box the COFFEE MAKER IS IN to open first
MARK FRAGILE CLEARLY on boxes where the guys loading can see.

I worked for a moving company the summer after I graduated from HS.
I have no idea of the cost, but I can tell you this. The people employed by moving companies are:
1. Just out of jail/prison
2. On their way to jail/prison
Which were you?

also do a consumers search for a moving company for the year you are in. If local, that pods place where they leave it and you pack it but dunno if they have muscle offered?

Wow something I can actually speak about from experience. I currently work for a moving company doing sales/estimations and marketing mostly. Some of our movers are rougher types that have varying degrees of criminal history in their background, some don’t. We have one guy who is 62 who retired last year and just decided he wanted to do physical labor to stay active, hes one of our best guys naturally. My advice would be to not trying to source from a chain like 2 Guys and a Truck, Black Tie, College Hunks etc. The franchise companies truly do not give a shite about how your move is handled as long as they get paid and corporate gets to wet their beaks. Try to find a local company because their reputation/business depends on them delivering quality service so that they can stay in good graces within the local community. They might be a little pricier but they also are going to give you more attention than a chain ever will. As far as packing is concerned even if I was using my guys I would try to pack any valuables/smaller items myself and leave them to clothes and dishes. Any peace of mind you have in regards to your most valuable belongings you can’t really put a price on.

Pack the stuff in your office (computers, files, etc.) Maybe fragile stuff in the garage. BRING THE COFFEE MAKER WITH YOU, along with a week worth of pods, a couple of mugs, etc.
Let the movers pack everything else, using the boxes they buy at bulk rate. Most of the stuff in your kitchen that might get broken probably consists of Crate and Barrel bullshite that sees the light of day one or twice a year, that probably costs $1.25 per piece to replace. Or you can spend a glorious week of your life after work wrapping shite you don't care about while trying not to rip each other apart over why you're packing stuff you never use. Maybe if you've got ceramic serving platters, you take care of those yourself.
You don't want to try to de-clutter *while* you're packing. First, stuff you want and stuff you don't will get mixed up. Second, imagine your wife taking pictures of shite to post on Facebook marketplace for people to come pick up the week you're moving. Start the process when you accept an offer.

Each time we moved we used the movers the realtor recommended, they deal w ppl moving all the time and know the local market. Do they getva kickback, probably but thats howbthe world works. We were on site each time they unpacked so that helps watching over things. I bought them coffee, lunch and had a beer when they finished. No issues

that is just delaying the fight.
If you have the movers pack everything, you will spend the next week or two looking for shite while your wife asks to move the picture frames two inches back and forth to make sure it is centered.
pack your shite up so that you can unload quickly because unpacking is the worst part. Use the movers for the only thing they are good for, moving things.
