Wife and I were at an outdoor bar in Florida earlier this week. Lovebugs everywhere. I swatted at one … well I thought it was one… to learn it was a yellow jacket that wanted a sip of my beer. Stung me right in the palm of my hand. fricker hurt for a while, but luckily I’m not allergic. Almost a week later and I can clearly see where it got me.
I just hope it died…

Nobody gonna mention hornets?

Y'all don't get this dude crossed up with the bumblebees. He's just a fly who likes dressing up as a bee.
Saw it the other day on the oak leaf hydrangea.

Golfing in North Georgia, found myself in the shite, as is typical. Taking my warm up swings down in this overgrown ditch and clearly found a nest. Motherfrickers ate my arse up and, with the ditch being steep, I had a helluva time escaping. Ended up with like 11 stings. I was with my country arse FIL who, when we got back to our rented cabin, he was recommending I use tobacco or kerosene to take the burn out. Not so sure about using fuel to soothe the skin

Mosquito’s, heat, humidity and Yellowjackets are just some of the reasons to love summer in the South.
Yeah! I love insects that bite and sting, oppressive wheat and humidity too!

I unearthed a nest of them and was stung over 80 times before I could get off my tractor. I ran for 50 yds to my house and they were still hitting me even inside the house. Stingers went thru flannel shirt and Levi s like bullets. Went unconscious and woke up in the hospital. It was a tough recovery. Damn near ended me.

The tobacco would have helped. I first got the tobacco treatment when I got stung by a red wasp and my grandmother slathered a snuff and water paste all over my arm where it popped me.
I would have passed on the kerosene.

When I was growing up in then-rural West Cobb, I was spending the weekend at my friends house, he had a creek and a 5 acre pond and that's what we did all day. We brought home some bluegill in a bucket with the idea to clean them, but never got around to it. In the morning, his mom was pissed off we had a bunch of dead fish in the carport in a bucket. She made us take them out to the woods (bunch of property) to dump them. I saw yellow jackets swarming all over them, and said no, it's too dangerous. She was a school teacher and didn't take no for an answer and convinced me to take those dead fish out to the woods to dump them... "those yellow jackets won't sting you, they just want the dead fish". She was wrong.
When I came back crying, looking like Mike Tyson just beat the shite out of me in the woods, she panics and starts whipping up some concoction of baking soda into a paste, while the dad immediately puts in a big plug of Red Man and starts chewing furiously. My mom was supposed to pick me up pretty soon, so they were scrambling to try and get the swelling down. So my face is swollen and in severe pain, including my bottom lip, and now I've got chewed up tobacco soaked in my friend's dad's saliva all over my face, and the mom painting me up with Arm and Hammer. I looked like a Ukrainian conscript who deserted the army to join the Children of the Corn.
frick yellow jackets, and tobacco doesn't work.

Tobacco is legit for stings.

It doesn't do a damn thing. It's a placebo effect.

Mowing the yard and running over an underground yellowjacket nest is one of life's most miserable events.
We’ll get em next time

Yellowjackets only nest underground. Something else fricked you up that day, hornets or some other type of wasp.
Well whatever they were they chased me and didn't relent. I ran all the way to the front yard and they were still after me

Biggest issue for yellow jackets is that some people call guinea wasp (common paper wasp) yellow jackets. That discredits the true yellow jacket to a point.

Edited. And I think you should capitalize Lord.

They are only underrated by people who have never been attacked by a swarm of the little bastards!

Same thing happened to my neighbor. Cutting his grass and passed over the hole/nest. He jumped off mower and ran (best 40 time of his life)to his front door. Half of them attacked the mower. Other half said phuck the mower and tore his arse up until he got in the house. 48 stings. He also passed out but survived. Luckily his wife was home to rush him to hospital. The few that got though the door with him stung her for bonus points.

There's a little yellow and black paper wasp too, smaller than the guinea paper wasp, that we sometimes called a yellow jacket. They aren't aggressive at all, though, and will hang out in a nest and just watch you all day/Summer. I've been stung twice by one of those, and both times by accidentally laying my arm on one.
