Seriously, if we brought back caning/flogging/whipping for minor offenses like this, the world would be a much, much better place.
And in this case, the punishment would fit the crime. Anyone who hits a lab with a shovel is either a serial killer or someone training to be one.

That's still no excuse to do something like that to a docile animal. Hopefully they arrest that pos. Hell I had two dogs this morning take of into my woods chasing deer. Hurting them is the last thing on my mind. No excuse for that.

I can understand people trespassing and even animals causing costly damage but can give two fricks about dogs. Hell should we all put up fences and nets to keep squirrels, coons and birds out. People like that need to get over themselves.

Labs are both crafty and strong. I have two lab mix puppies, one of which got out a week ago. She literally ripped the wooden boards off the fence. Thankfully, she didn't wander any farther than the carport, but it's tough to contain labs.
