I'm annualizing the numbers since people always look at it in terms of a 40 hour work week for other jobs in which people get 2-3 weeks off a year. Teachers simply don't work a 40 hour work week on average.

We get a week for mardi gras
And 7 days a year vacation. 40 tops to be rolled over.

Do we forget about the week off for Thanksgiving, two weeks off for Christmas, a week off for Easter, days off for spring break, some mother frickers have a fall break now, and New Orleans teachers are off several days for Mardi Gras.
Compare that to someone with a real job that gets about 8 paid holidays. I love my job and make a damn good living but GTFO about it not being at least 3 months off for being a teacher.

I really wish I could answer that question. It's something women came up with. I had an administrator who wrote me up one year, because my room "didn't look elementary enough." Whatever the frick that means...

Dont what? Are you talking about someones $50K starting claim? That wasn't me, but I know for a fact my mother got ten days of personal leave per year when she worked for STC Parish Public Schools.
Edit: also fin, if you're using those links as a "gotcha" for starting salary, its a poor example. I started at $45K out of college in CM. $44K starting is not a terrible salary, and that doesnt include the freaking awesome healthcare and pension benefits teachers get.

I've thought about teaching. May possibly still consider it if I can't get into another masters or doctoral occupational therapy program.
