Is it illegal to have a friend remote start the vehicle for climate control, then sleep in it?
What if is a system that has a curfew mode and movement can't be engaged but it can still run?

I have no idea. I imagine they'd try to give you a ticket and then hope you don't find a lawyer willing to actually fight this in court.

Well, I am glad you’re a PO with some sense. Ever been associated with an officer that didn’t agree with you?

Had a friend who got kicked out of a bar for being too drunk.
Like a dumb arse he decided to call the cops on the bar for being kicked out.
He sat in his car in the parking lot and waited for the police.
He woke up in the jail with a DUI

Let’s say the car was running
If he's not in the driver's seat, I would simply argue that there is no expression of an intent to drive.
If he is in the driver's seat, engine running, I think he's in trouble in a lot of places - in park, foot on the brake or not.

So some people on this thread would agree that if car is running and you’re in the drivers seat it’s a DWI?

Have you ever tried getting an Uber in a remote location late at night?

It's context. In a parking spot at the bar? Maybe that's not, strictly speaking, evidence of illegality at that moment.
At a stop light, asleep, in park, car running, draped over the steering wheel? You got some splainin' to do.

Retired this past December and do NOT regret it at all.
Not in agreement with every officers decision is frequent but not always all the time. You see patterns whether subjects, suspects and/or officers and you deal with those as you learn human nature. You have some of above stated that just having a bad day and/or make bad decisions. Maybe once and maybe repetitive.
Taking up for some random civilian being violated is what you have to do sometimes and it doesnt always go over well with your colleagues but I am one who dgaf about your feelings. We can be on the same team but we all have to have the same goal. If this doesnt happen then officers run rogue and I just never had the ability to digest it.
Seen many come and go but the politics have gotten so bad these days that leaving was my best option to stay sane. Plus its a young mans game and I am no longer young lol

Gotta sleep in the passenger side and throw your keys on the floorboard. If you're behind the wheel with possesion of your keys, guilty.

if you're in your vehicle with the keys you can be charged, probably wouldn't stick but the thing is, the expense, aggravation, and long term affects are almost as bad as being convicted

Happened to a customer of mine but the car was running. Ran out to the parking lot and talked the police from taking him in and to let me drive him home. He was passed out drunk.

No dwi. If the keys are in the ignition and the car cranked…. Then it gets dicey. If you have camera prove the person never drove after drinking then you could get out of it

What’s the masturbation policy in a situation like this?

I think it requires person to be in the drivers seat.
