I seriously don't understand how anybody voted for him but I guess being extroverted and having an accent is more important to boomer voters than being competent and non corrupt.

Well, at least in one election the choice was him or David Duke...

Edwards certainly took his share, but I always looked at him as a guy who got shite done. I’d still take him over most of today’s politicians.

On the small businesses gambling away their money, if you don't see the damage gambling addiction causes to families then I don't know what to tell you. Apparently some people are susceptible to gambling addiction. I know at least two men who found out their wives had a gambling addiction. Fortunately, they were able to stop the bleeding ($) before they lost everything. Both lost about $30 thousand dollars each. Ouch.

Do you agree gambling addiction in Louisiana is a real problem? Do you even care? Apparently from the way you argue it doesn't matter to you. I'll admit the sound of those slot machines humming has an almost hypnotic effect when you step into that casino.

But I suspect you're involved in the gaming industry either directly or indirectly.

Anyway, like I said, gamble away Pilgrim.

you are such a little bitch

how about we let people have freedom instead of telling them wtf to do?

if there is one thing edwards did right it was legalizing gambling.

why are you not a fan of biden? you seem to be a big government liberal in your approach to things...you know the govnernment has to baby you and protect you from all the bad things out there instead of you making the decision yourself

Edwards is a piece of shite but dont blame the government for people being weak arse bitches who cant control their addiction.

and no i dont care if people get addicted to anything. they have free choice. I know 1 of those business in the LC area that you speak of. The guy did it to himself. Did it take 20 years of the family to recover since it was family owned....yep, but that is on them for not watching the books and the brother for being a weak addict.

the res tof your post in this thread is dumb as frick

Louisiana doesn't own the patent on corrupt governors who stain the state's reputation, but y'all sure have had some colorful ones.

These stories are great, by the way.

I was just sitting here thinking "Man, LA at least got some great stories and the guy was obviously pretty charismatic. Here in AL all of our corrupt politicians are usually just old and boring."

Bentley is the only one I recall being involved in something truly salacious like an affair or something. And all he did was use state money to try and hide his extramarital affair. This Edward's guy seemed like he didn't care who knew he was sleeping around.

Friend of mine's mom went to the movies back in the 70's. Wound up sitting next to Edwards. He came in as it started and sat down. He didn't hit on her or anything . Said he was very respectful and quiet. Just wanted to see a movie.

Went to a wedding "down in da parish". During the reception my date came over to me and said she thought I'd come up behind her and was rubbing her shoulders. She turned around and said it was that old,white-headed guy over there. I told her it was the "Guvnor"

Pefect example of why Louisiana will always be 49th or 50th in everything. The people are fine with corruption.

I find that hard to believe. He could certainly do better than that.

Yep, Louisiana has got Alabama beat in colorful stories, but we did have Big Jim Folsom. He had some moments:

From Wiki:
On March 3, 1948, Folsom's name was in headlines across the nation when the 30-year-old Christine Johnston, a widow who had met Folsom in late 1944 while she was working as a cashier at the Tutwiler Hotel in Birmingham, filed a paternity suit against the governor by alleging that he was the father of her 22-month-old son.[5] Undaunted, nine days after the suit was filed Folsom appeared on the sidewalk in front of the Barbizon Modeling School in New York City, where he kissed a hundred pretty models who had voted him "The Nation's Number One Leap Year Bachelor," attracting a crowd of 2500 onlookers and causing a traffic jam. Johnston dropped the suit in June for a cash settlement from Folsom; years later, he admitted to an interviewer that he was indeed the father of Johnston's child.

Also from Wiki:
In 1962, Folsom again ran for governor against his one-time protégé George C. Wallace but was defeated. A sardonic slogan that referred to Folsom's reputation for taking graft emerged during that campaign: "Something for everyone and a little bit for Big Jim." Folsom sometimes referred to "the emoluments of office" and once told a campaign crowd, "I plead guilty to stealing. That crowd I got it from, you had to steal it to get it.... I stole for you, and you, and you.

Wife & I, along with another couple, were standing off to the side in an airport boarding area when EWE & his 2 State Trooper body guards walked up to our wives. He asked if they were going to Hawaii ...that destination was listed above the ticket counter. Both said yes & he laffed & told them to buy grass skirts & drop by his office on return. He said he would be the lawn mower & would cut their grass. Right in front of us, the 2 husbands. We both stepped towards him & both Troopers stepped up as well. He laffed & walked away.
