Yale should just rename the class "Major English Poets - The Good Ones" and tell the complaining students that the poems they are looking for can be found in the courses offered by the Women's studies and African studies departments.

As a math major I'm pretty offended by the lack of diversity regarding the people who originally proved these theorems.

There are plenty of very good non-white writers in English, like Derek Walcott, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Rushdie, among many, many others, but I don't see how you can understand some of these later authors without understanding Chaucer and Shakespeare.
This.
I mean, FFS, this whole thing is beyond ridiculous.

Yeah, that's true, and again, in the class description, they say it focuses on 14th-17th century poets, and LISTS the 4 poets they will focus on.
Students know exactly what they are getting in to. Don't take the fricking class.

Tupac > Shakespeare. Teach real poetry, not just old shite.

If it wasn't for these stupid university courses, no one would care who Shakespeare or Chaucer are.
It's time to let their names drift off into oblivion, they are no longer important.

I mean, even if it is...so the frick what?
There will be many other classes where you will cover a variety of diverse authors.
Full disclosure: I was a Lit Major once upon a time. This shite enrages me.

Shakespeare only introduced hundreds of words and expressions we commonly use into our vernacular, but yea, he's of no importance!

The class only focuses on Poets from the 14th to 17th Century. It says it in the class description.
Where you will basically get Shakespeare, John Donne, Spenser, and Chaucer.

Yale needs to be reduced to rubble.

They thought it said "Shaqspeare".

So did snoop, but he didn't do it like a bitch. Let's do classes about him.

I always think it's funny when people say we need to get rid of "useless" degrees like anthropology, literature, art, history, and philosophy. Do people really want to live in a world like that?
You go to college to become educated, not to get a job. You want a job? You go to professional school or trade school.
College graduates are generally educated. Educated people get jobs. A person who studied art history and got great grades is not an idiot. They are educated. It means they can be an asset to your business.

So did Soulja Boy, Lil' Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. How many courses allow you to study those people at Yale?
Zero.
LucasP beat me to it.
