Disagree. This has been a long time brewing. Instead of participating in open intellectualism, academia has since the 60s been reaching for the farthest left version of progressivism they can find. Intellectual nowadays equals progressive ideology. Progressive ideology is in academia defined as the opposite of what has held power in social and political spheres.
They've finally amassed enough of these professors to admit enough of these students and implement curricula that encourages the kind of activism you are seeing in modern schools.
I say this as a person who works in academia and would generally claim that he identifies as more liberal than conservative.
Thought police and Gestapo-like tactics in policing intellectualism are going to destroy what has made American colleges the envy of the world.
