I have in both hands. I can get by but wondering if anyone has tried it and what doctor you used.

Sorry friend but I don't have hand AIDS. All the best.

Certainly worth a try. Better than the surgery to try and improve it.

I've heard good things about the procedure but never had it done myself. If you're in BR, I'd go see someone at Baton Rouge Orthopedic.

That crap runs in my family too. Vikings’ disease.
I’m really hoping it works.

Go see a radiation oncologist to discuss non-surgical option.
Radiation is first line treatment in Germany, not surgery.

Tigerdude12,
I had a severe case at early onset (26).
The Xiaflex plus manipulation worked 100% perfect. Never realized how much it bothered/impacted me until it was gone.
My physician never even recommended surgery.

Do you mind sharing the price for treatment?
Also, any side effects?

Chappy,
I have above average insurance but worked with Xiaflex people for one of those coupon things and was pleasantly surprised..like 200 bucks vs the quoted price of like $1750 with insurance.
On a side note, my wife is a PA and at her last orthopedic related CME conference they basically said Xiaflex was so cost prohibitive it was not an option as a course of treatment for most people.
The Xiaflex rep admitted how expensive it was and wanted to make sure I went through with it.
For the process, I went in and got the injection in the nodule. Mildly uncomfortable with a couple hours of burning.
Couple days later went in and they gave lidocaine in the area , came back 30 minutes later, and essentially bent my finger backwards until he "broke" the cord and popped it. My finger didnt break ( some do ) and it was loud like a shotgun. Perfect after that.
It was so bad before that gripping my steering wheel wrong would cause me enough pain to see stars. I understand 10/10 pain is reserved for getting shot or kidney stones, but, for hand related pain I was at a 10/10 on some days.
After injection & popping my cord I can lay my hand flat for the first time in years and am pain free.

Thanks for the info. I’m not having any symptoms yet, but my mom is starting to have the nodules.

I have it in my feet, it's called plantar fibromatosis. It's the same disease. Radiation helps, you can find a facebook page for Dupuytren's. Lot's of great resources, we have a radiation oncologist at BR General that treats it. I am considering having radiation done, it works! Good luck. It's painful as heck.

quote:I'm glad I clicked on this thread. After reading about it, Dupuytren's is exactly what I have going on with my right hand... early stage. I never even realized I couldn't straighten my ring finger until now. I knew I had a "knot" or cyst on the palm of my hand but didn't pay much attention to it. Thanks, now it's time to make an appointment with my doc.

Same here. Dad broke one loose when working in the shop one day. Had surgery to fix the other. About the same result.

Radiation is first line treatment in Europe. My husband has Dupuytren’s in both hands and Ledderhose in both feet. His case is pretty aggressive. Radiation stopped the progression, softened and shrank old nodes.
I recommend anyone with palmar/plantar fibromas consult Dr. Andrew Lauve. He’s a radiation oncologist at Pennington Cancer Center in Baton Rouge. He has a lot of experience with Dupuytren’s. The team there is fantastic.
