No way there is any kind of settlement if the mob still ran that town.

The Tangiers was based off of the Stardust casino in Vegas.

Recently read the book.
Made it seem like the mob was really hands off with Vegas. They just provided the financing by directing certain entities (like the Teamster's Pension Fund) to give loans. In exchange for a skim. They also paid off a lot of the local authorities. Spilotro (Pesci's character) changed all that. He was a maniac and his crew terrorized the town. All that heat changed things. Plus RICO. But the bankers and corporate types really aren't that different from mob bosses.
The locals were (and I'm sure still are) a bunch of corrupt yokels. Las Vegas always had gambling but it was a shite hole in the middle of the desert until the 40s. No doubt in my mind a skim is still going on somewhere.

The (relatively) older days of Vegas were so much better. I started going in the mid-‘80s when I first turned 18. You’s pass by the showroom in the morning or the day before and make a reservation for a show. When you showed up before showtime, the maitre d’ would take you to your seat, and if you slipped him a $20 he’d take you right up front or to a booth. Nothing like sitting at the stage for a guy like Don Rickles and having him rag on you all night long.
I remember when they suddenly switched to ticketmaster for shows. All the new commercialized hotels with their gimmicks started popping up, etc. The whole place seemingly changed overnight. And the process has repeated itself a couple more times since then too, each time for the worse.

Yea it was a shithole until the mob found out gambling was legal there abd Bugsy Siegal and Meyer Lansky built a big resort out there

Do you know what his name was? It was More Green because that's what we were bringing in; more green than all of our other hustles. But I didn't question his name ever thou it sounded funny or made up.
