I work in a different segment of my company than everyone else in my office. Essentially I lease space so I don’t have to drive far daily.

The manager of the other people in this office is bad. He is ALWAYS late if here on Monday. He is usually late in general and he is always leaving early. When he is here he doesn’t do any work at all. I do my own thing so I don’t care it doesn’t affect me.

His employees are fed up and asking for advice and help. Because of my position I could probably send one email and fix their problems. But like I said, it doesnt effect me.

Would the OT mind it’s business or would the OT help?

I would mind my own business, but that’s just me.

IS this a public or private company?

If public- contact HR most companies have an open door policy

If private- Talk to no one but the owner

If you're not management, stay out of it.

I think you should talk to him. Let him know that you are aware that of his shortcomings. Be prepared to list them if necessary but try to avoid details.

Let him know that for about $350 per week, in cash, he will be able to continue pretending to do his job.

He's probably doing "manager things". I wouldn't worry about it. His position is obviously higher than yours, I'd assume that would be risky no matter how confident you are in your abilities.

Do you care about what his employees think of you? You are losing some credibility with them every day you don’t do anything about it, if you really have the ability to stop it. They are coming to you for help, not because they like you.

So... you lease space in an area different from that of your actual office building, but you still work for the same company that employees this guy and his underlings?

That doesn't seem to make sense. You meant to say you work at their building?

If you work for the same company don't you give a damn about the company? Is the department gettings its work done or not because of this manager? If you are in management I'd help with the issue, but if not then I'd probably suggest the employees get together as a dept and do something on their own.

Why be the boss if you can show up late and leave early? Perks of putting up with the BS.

Said manager might be connected to the owner and can do whatever he wants. Could get a target on you?

Or, maybe a new manager gets hired and insists you get brought back into the office....extending your commute.

Or, you get asked to be new manager.

Think through all possible changes. Then use your gut.
