A friend of mine banks online. He's said that it is virtually impossible to deposit cash that way. He's got a few hundred bucks he wants to deposit, and he's asked me to write him a check for that cash amount. In exchange, I'd get the cash and just deposit into my account.

Odd freaking request, I know. Also odd to put me on the spot... other than getting new friends, which I'm not exploring the idea , WWOTD?

If he’s giving you the actual cash I don’t see the problem.

Not odd.

I bank with nfcu. The nearest physical brach is 2 hours away.

Large amounts of cash do me no good.

Looks like you're complicit in his money laundering scheme.

Enjoy prison

I did this when I used to counterfeit. Took away my paper trail.

you can take pics of cash and deposit in your bank?

That is a bold business strategy, Cotton

Unless you need to keep the money in your account, why is that a problem? It's not like he is saying "ummmm.. I will pay you next week". $100 in cash = $100 check. If anything, you could be screwing him by not having that amount in your checking account (which would be screwing you as well because you would then get a NSF, blah blah blah, but you get the point).

Post Office Money Orders are fairly cheap, I guess your friend could get those with cash and then mobile deposit the Money Order(s) into their account if there is not a brick & mortar bank nearby.

fill out the check, and swap it for cash. He prob is just lazy and will do mobile deposit instead of just going to a bank. Unless he banks with someone that doesnt have any branches near by, then he should just change banks.

I have give folks cash all the time in return for a Venmo deposit. I don't have a physical bank near me so cash serves me no purpose.
