Park on Erato for free and walk to the museum.

Lots of walking and cool interactive stuff.

Give yourself plenty of time. 2 hours wasn't nearly enough. My wife went begrudgingly, then wasn't wanting to leave at closing time.

Get there early. There's a couple shows to watch in addition to the exhibits. Just take it slow and accept the fact that people will be all over your toes. Except women with strollers. Screw that. Unacceptable.

Only main thing is that there is a lot to see. Agree with getting there early to give yourself enough time to try to see as much as possible, and I do think that seeing the theater experience and all that is worth the extra money.

Also, if you go on Sunday free parking on the street. Usually can find some within a couple block area.

Go to Beyond all Boundaries, well done show. The entire museum is great but 1 full day might not fit it all in if you are ahistory buff.

Like others have said, give yourself plenty of time and go see the shows they offer. One of the better museums in the country.

And don't forget to check out Confederate Memorial Hall just around the corner (before Mitch finds a way to evict them). Even if it isn't your thing, seeing some of the original uniforms and original flags is neat because there's very little of that around anymore.

Check and see if they still have the piano in there - the Washington Artillery actually pulled that one out onto a battlefield with them once and played it in between union charges. (They were, by the standards of the time, all middle aged men, educated, and wealthy. They didn't need to join up and fight but they did. Most of their cannons were privately owned by them and when they traveled they brought a French chef and a couple of servants with them. A unique and entertaining group of characters.)

Do a twofer, park on St. Charles Ave and ride the rail car to the WW2 Museum.

It's an all day kinda thing, and it is amazing.

The addon movie was worth it imo. The submarine thing was ridiculously stupid and was a complete waste of time & money.

I agree with this. It's definitely more than a one day trip, unless you simply wander from exhibit to exhibit looking at the big pictures and continuing on..

Like most museums, now, it's pricey as is the American Sector or the Stage-Door Canteen.

The pay parking lots around it do not give change, there are no attendants any longer, either. Watch what you pay, and watch your time. The lots are likely owned by the Landrieu family, so keep in mind your patronage if you don't like them.

Parking up St. Charles Avenue in the residential neighborhoods, or just off of it, isn't the worst idea I've heard. Couple bucks in bound, and a couple bucks back outbound beats $15.00-$20.00 in the adjoining parking lots.

If you make it from your car to the museum, you will feel the same sense of relief as those who survived D-Day

You are trying too hard.

As for the museum, it is world class and needs a big chunk of time to see.
