I appreciate that.

Thanks. But at this point I think we’re past that. He was in the hospital for this same thing just a few weeks ago. They were able to bring his blood pressure back up and get his kidneys functioning again. I don’t know if they can, or really even should do it again. His mind is gone. He literally cannot do anything. Even before this he could barely get out of his recliner and into his mobility scooter.

That is tragic. One person should be able to be there to comfort him at his time of death. Not right.

The OT doesn't care about people over 55. However, I'm sorry your family is going through that.

I agree. But that’s where we’re at.

But I can see the other side as well. If I or a loved one were in the room down the hall, I’d not want them to risk the virus getting in the ICU by allowing visitors.

It’s just a shitty situation with no good answer either way.

The worst part is my MIL said he was really confused and didn’t know where he was or what was going on. And now he’s there alone.
Man, From what I have read on several hospital restrictions is that there is an exception for elderly people and minors that need someone's assistance. Seems like this could qualify with the right charge nurse.

Sorry to hear this Darth. I hope something gets worked out where he doesn't have to die alone.

My MIL tried making that same argument, that he needed her there because he can’t understand what they doctor’s are saying. It fell on deaf ears.

She just called to let my wife know she’s home from the hospital. They’re going to go tomorrow morning and start making arrangements for his funeral. Don’t know if he’ll make it through the night or when he will go. But it won’t be long.

I’d also heard that there were special considerations, though limited, for those in their final moments.

First off, none of us have it as far as I know. But it’s having a pretty direct and profound impact tonight nonetheless.

Damn. You must be the only one

That is terrible! I am very sorry for your family. I hope when I get to that point, they just let me die in my bed at home.

See if you can get in touch with a local hospice. They can bring him home and have a DME company bring a hospital bed, oxygen concentrator, and suction machine.

That's not as easy as it was a week ago.

Uh not to be mean but if he is that sick and feeble why even admit to ICU? Let him die in peace at home

Probably because of the contagiousness.

Sucks, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Edit: read it wrong, he doesn't have it? Eh, I get the thought process, but if no one there has tested positive or is there with symptoms, just let him out.

Damn. Maybe get ahold of an administrator at the hospital and bring up ethical mistreatment, maybe they could at least get his wife in there with proper PPE.

Regardless, thoughts are with you and yours.

Most ICUs won't allow visitors even before the virus.

Call in Hospice. Hospice may be overwhelmed but, from personal experience, I think they can help both the patient and family.
