I have rescued, raised over 15 dogs and one being a pit that just showed up. If you have never owned one you don't know what you are talking about . Mine is the best dog I have ever owned, won't hurt anything except a squirrel, loves cats. The dog whisperer has two as his personal dogs and blames drug dealers that ruined many. They are very athletic and need exercise as most dogs do, that's where the problems come in.
If you can't exercise your dog of any type don't get one.

The only good thing there is to say about pitbulls is you can tell immediately someone is a complete imbecile if they have a pitbull.

Like a shite person alert or something.

A licensed breeder doesn’t prevent trashy people from getting pits. I’d be for mandatory spay/neuter on all pits and pit mixes. Let the breed die out. Completely. The owners can love their pits until the dogs die, and then the dog owners can select a new dog from the hundreds of other breeds available.

My ex wife wanted a dog really bad. I held her off as long as I could but finally said "ok just DO NOT get a pit bull".

She came back with a pit mix. I said WTF! They told her it was a "terrier".

I'm pretty sure I found one of my dogs litter mates on Petfinder. Poor pup.
Petfinder dog

My dog

We got fooled by the boxer mix label. They also said she was 6 months when we adopted her. Vet said she's closer to 2 years. She has only gained about 5 lbs since we adopted her, so pretty sure she's just a runt.

Eta: She's very sweet to us and I don't think I could make her bite us. But, she gets very defensive around food and her space.

She also acts like a crackhead when it comes to balls and fetch.

I am not gonna argue that pits don't have something inherently wrong in their DNA that makes them more susceptible for attacks (but I imagine other breeds do too). But I am almost convinced that they just happen to be the breed of choice for trash a-hole (trasholes?) classes of people who are terrible dog owners, and that's the main reason their attacks are so prevalent.

If trashy people loved chihuahuas, for example, I bet we'd see a lot more chihuahua attacks happening because they would be owned by the same idiot dogowners.

It is a vicious cycle. Pit bulls are probably a bit more predisposed to aggressiveness than other breeds, but that is amplified significantly by the fact they are the preferred breed of trashy owners who DESIRE that aggressiveness. As such, they foster it. The more they breed, the more owners there are who get such dogs and the cycle continues.

Maybe not THAT far. But you are right. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans, even Dalmatians could EASILY take the place of pit bulls if they were the preferred breed of trashy people

I feel that. Lots of judgmental people around here with nothing to go off of but stereotypes. That is a sad way to be and says a lot about a person

Case in point, BucEes saying it is a shite person alert. I am guessing that baw there isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and does not have much world and life experience to form that viewpoint. I hope he can open his eyes and become less narrow minded.

My neighbors adopted a pit mix--they have a 4 and a 2 y/o. I have a huge yard so they asked me if I would watch her one weekend. That dog is sweet and runs to you to be petted, but after being in my yard for a while she bit off pieces of multiple cedar fence boards and got into another neighbor's yard, totally freaking out those folks and their pre-school age child. Nope, no more.

My wife volunteers at New Orleans SPCA. And yes, it seems 3 out of 4 adoptable dogs are pits.

It’s always the same people in these threads. They live in a bubble, brainwashed by the media and message boards. Little to no experience with much outside their comfort zone. It’s entertaining though.

A breed of dog bred for fighting. A population control, dog fighting, goes away. Population now out of control.
The lack of vision to predict this and therefore lack of policy creation to help manage is what has contributed greatly to what you are seeing.

Looking at the Election board really drives this home, and the irony of it all is nothing short of amazing

here to us pitbull owners breaking those stereotypes and proving they are good pets when put in the right hands

I have a big red one roaming my neighborhood without a leash. I have told my son if he is out with our dog in the yard and sees him to get him back inside. If he comes in my yard he is going to take a dirt nap.

This is a problem with them. A fricking Chihuahua or Corgi won’t bite off pieces of a wooden fence to get into another yard.

I guarantee if there was an “aggressiveness scale” to measure dogs, pits would be at the top or near it. And the power of their jaws and muscular build just make things worse.

If they’re such “smart, loyal and awesome dogs” as owners claim, why don’t police and military use them?

Brainwashed by stories of pits mauling and killing people? When was the last time you read about a Corgi killing someone?

Sounds like you’re the one who’s brainwashed.

And this is why most of y’all are ignorant and live in a bubble, one way, close minds and know nothing about pitbulls except what you read in the media.
