Would you recommend Salt Lake City for a late 20s non-Mormon bachelor?

Interviewed for a job right outside of SLC. The cost of living just outside the city is only slightly higher than Baton Rouge, and the demographics are definitely a bit different.

For a non-LDS late 20s guy, would it be enjoyable? Trying to figure out if it's worth the move for only a slight pay increase. All my family is either in New Orleans or on the northshore, so I'd be far from all of them. TIA.

I give it two years before they've got you in a black tie on a bike.

Mormon chicks (at least the ones that I knew) were pretty hot, but also, pretty strict and religious. Don't know how much strange you could find around there .

I would highly recommend it. Very clean city, suburbs with tremendous demographics, and within driving distance to Las Vegas. What's not to like.

You can still buy liquor in the liquor stores and Utah does make some good beer. I love Uinta.

I'm heading up to SLC at the end of June for 10 days to check it out. Have a few friends from that area and they love it. A lot of outdoor activities, no crime, awesome schools, clean cities and hot gals.

Be advised that Mormons typically get married and start pumping out kids as quickly as they can. Late 20's mean you are old AF by their standards.

My experience with the ones in Louisiana, hot, yes. Strict and religious, hell no.

Utah's a funny place. Most people I met either fell into one of two camps:
1)Mormon and predictably straight edge.
2)Hippie and wild.

If you ever spend time in Moab you definitely see the hippie side come out.

I stayed in downtown SLC for a week and it was awesome. Great scenery, felt safe walking around at night. The beer on draft is only 4% but bottled beer and liquor is the same.

Also, Squatters brewery is there.

graduated from up those parts.

SLC is definitely different than BR/NOLA but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

if you're into the outdoors it's definitely pretty awesome. Snowboard passes for $100 a season is pretty hard to beat.

everything else is within a days drive. CO, Las Vegas, CA

Yes, it has a surprisingly hip downtown and college scene (the University of Utah).

You can go to Park City in the winter to ski and during the summer to hike, ride bikes, or fish. Great weather and natural beauty, good beer.

I would stay as close to downtown as possible to maximize your enjoyment. You mentioned living outside the city; I guess it depends where you're looking. I don't think places like Bountiful or Lehi would be good fits for a non LDS-person who was young and liked to party a bit ;- )

Buddy of mine wanted me to move there. I told him I'm not moving anywhere I can't catch trout or redfish.

You can catch a real, actual trout.

But you're right, no speckled trout...which isn't a trout.
