After the last such time this happened, I had a convo with SO which basically had me saying, look, I know you want to shop with your mom, so next time, just head up by yourself and let me and the kids hang out at home for the day (or do something else). She got all upset basically saying it wasn't fair to her in-laws for the kids and me to stay at home since "they love seeing us" and that she hates driving somewhat long distances by herself (which is true).

Could you drive up, have lunch, and then go to the movies or do something else with the kids while they shop and FIL naps?

And to do that 2.5 hour drive back and forth three times in a week, regardless of why, still gets a little monotonous.

I’m gonna lean towards my not being a pussy. I’ve driven from my house to Albuquerque in a day. I’ve drive to Nashville in a day. I’ve driven to Cleveland in two days. I can drive long distances when needed.

Don’t think the driving time is why she called you a puss

Actually I have to give the nod to ole baw if time is extended for “shopping.” You women act like that is sport or hobby or something.

We've never spent a Christmas Eve together and this was our 8th Christmas together.

I drive to New Orleans on Christmas Day to meet up with him/his family and then we leave the car at their house and spend the day/night bar hopping, go to a nice dinner, and stay in a hotel.

I'm not super into the family stuff. I prefer my own home, own bed, etc. Even with my own family, who I'm plenty close to. His family is great. They love me, I love them. But there's a certain [ON] you have to be when at family gatherings. So it is just easier for us to do the holiday apart with our own families and meet up later.
