Would you rather have 24-hour flu or a 5-day cold?

Prob the flu

I'll take the extra symptoms for 24 hours. I don't want any illness for 5 days.

Flu, but the flu is more likely to kill you than a cold - and none of us are as young as we used to be, baw.

I hate throwing up.

No such thing as a 24 hour flu.

Cold.
I can lay around for 5 days.

Cold. You can paper over the symptoms.

Cold. I can pretty much carry on normally with a cold. The 24 hour stomach flu I'm incapacitated for the entire time

Give me the cold. I got hit with some kind of flu/stomach bug last year on Christmas Eve. The worst of the vomiting was over in about 12 hours and the diarrhea in about 36. I was ruined for days to follow. I don't want that shite again.

No shite. That’s the purpose of the question.

There is no 24 hour flu. Flu last a week roughly. Now there is a 24 hour virus.

24-hour viruses seem like death would be a welcome break. Colds may suck, but I can pretty much do everything I would normally do with a cold. I don't have to worry about spontaneously shitting and throwing up at the same time.

I got the flu for the first time earlier this year, and I never threw up or had nausea.
It was, however, pure misery. I drank really heavily one night and thought I was having the worst hangover of my life the next day. It was so bad that I lost feeling in my hands and drove across town to one of those IV therapy places to get an IV. It helped but an hour later I was shivering uncontrollably and still feeling terrible. My brother suggested I take my temperature and it was really high. Turns out it was the flu . Strange because I didn’t have any symptoms the day prior.

Were you actually tested for influenza(meaning did they do a swab and it came back positive).

Yep
The doctor actually said the IV was probably very smart since the flu and a hangover combo means I was probably very dehydrated.

Reason I asked is that many people will say "oh I had the flu" but were never actually swabbed.
There are numerous respiratory illnesses that have "flu like" symptoms and that even have fevers. Doesn't always mean it is actual influenza.
And you don't always have nausea/vomiting with influenza.

If you have ever really had the flu you will not want it again.
I don't think there is a 24 hour flu.
All my life I had said from time to time that I had the flu when I really just had a bad cold. Then about 5 years ago I got the flu and the doctor called it the flu and I knew then what the flu really is. There is no going to work with the flu. I laid in bed 5 days with 104-105 temps. I understand now how it kills people.
(I did not have vomiting either. Lost 15 pounds in those 5 or 6 days.)
