Last week I was driving by the mid-city Baton Rouge General and next to it was the Baton Rouge branch of ULM Pharmacy School sign.

Maybe you can stay in Baton Rouge & go

On North St. side.

I'll give you my thoughts on your question:

1. Go to medical school if you have the opportunity rather than going to pharmacy school

2. How certain would you be able to gain admittance into a pharmacy school located out of state?

3. If your heart is set on pharmacy, then go up to Monroe and attend ULM

Whatever you decide....best of luck in your decision making and with your final decision

I don't think ULM is a 'leader in the field' of pharmacy.

That said, I'd probably go the cheaper option. Seems like it'd cost ~80k more to go elsewhere, which is a lot of money on a pharmacist's salary.

Unless you're wanting to go out of state I'd think Monroe would be a no brainer. Really good pharmacy program and it's the cheapest of your options. Not to mention Monroe really isn't that bad a place to reside, it's no New Orleans as far as entertainment goes, but it's solid.

And you really won't believe how many hot chicks there are in Monroe. It's uncanny

Go out of state. Louisiana is a laughing stock outside of the deep south.

What if you move to the state of the school you want to go to. Work for 6 months and gain residency.

I would go to ULM. Their pharmacy school is really not bad and will give you all of the requisite networking to get a position in Louisiana. The fact that Monroe is kinda a boring place doesn't matter because being in pharmacy school, you won't have time to enjoy it no matter where you live.

My sister and brother-in-law met in Pharm school at what is now ULM. Both were transferring in from other states (Tenn/Ark) as the other states programs were harder to get into due to competition and politics (sis had a 3rd organic chem not even required at ULM that the professor flat out told her she was not passing simply cuz he objected to the number of women enrolled in pharm at the time). They have many classmates they still keep in touch with 25 years later too.

Tl/dr Check to be sure you can actually get in the out of state schools before passing on ULM.

The diploma gets you the starting job no matter where it comes from, the next job is where YOU come into play.

People may scoff at this, but go to Xavier. It is one of the best pharmacy programs in the country.

given the difference in costs, I would go to ULM and not even give it another thought....

Your title is crap. The fact you're considering ULM for pharmacy school changes everything. Go there.

ULM had a really good pharmacy program, Monroe isn't that bad, especially if you like outdoors stuff. if you just want to be a pharmacist, go to ULM, if you want to get into research, you probably need to look out of state.

Xavier at one time had a program where you only had to do 2 years of undergraduate work before being accepted into Pharmacy school.

UGA has the same thing. I think you don't need a degree to apply to most pharmacy schools

Isn't ULM's pharmacy schools pretty good?

Sounds like the cheaper option isn't necessary the worst. You may get better bang for your buck there. And Monroe isn't as terrible as people make it out to be
