So if you're not OT rich and you're looking in the used toy car market......

Early BMW Z3
Boxter
Miata MX5
MR2

What are you going for? I'm all about simplicity and fun to drive. I don't care about top end speed, I just want something that corners well.

I've personally witnessed a few Miatas destroy several Porsche 911 owner's egos on the road course. Not my bag but can be built to be competitive.

A lot easier to find too. Are the MR2's worth a damn? They didn't seem to take off after they were rebooted around 2001. The Z3/4 looks fun but I'd be worried about the BMW maintenance bill. I'd be nervous about issues with the earlier Boxters too.

Someone couldn't handle their Porsche then.

Equally qualified drivers behind the wheel and the Porsche wins hands down.

Miata goes 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, which is slow comparatively. Top end speed doesn't compare either.

See that's perfect for me. My foot is heavy, and the speeding tickets would really put a dent in my drinking budget.

Yes I'm well aware, thanks.

Road course has a LOT to do with driver, and my point still stands. A cheap shitbox with great driver skill can out master a more powerful car with a low skill driver. You can have a cheap weekend track car that can be built to be competitive.

Take a good Miata out somewhere with hairpin turns and you will reconsider that. It's not about 0-60, it's about dropping into 3rd and hitting the gas while others are braking.

Got real lucky. The photo is not actually it because I don’t have pictures, but it is identical.
One owner Metairie seller on Craigslist. Only 90k miles. Needed some minor engine work. Was a few years ago. I watch ads all the time and if you look hard, you can find them for about $15k now.

I was getting my CX-5 serviced at Mazda and was looking in the showroom. Me and the Mrs. (no pics) were looking at the MX-5 for a weekend car. at 6'4" there was physically no way I could get in the car. I tried. It was impossible. So to anyone that wants it. be prepared to be cramped even at 6'

That's insane.

I pay attention, because I'd like to get a small roadster in the next couple of years. You can find plenty of miatas, a few bmw's, and even the occasional mr2 or boxter for under $10k. People ask that much for a totaled s2000
