re: Would you drive this? The market's best affordable cabriolets, roadsters, & convertibles

If I’m buying a Porsche, I’ll spend the extra $50k and get a 911T convertible. That is the one and only sports car I would ever drive.
My son is not into trucks or Jeeps (sadly). Coming back from a wheelin’ trip, he told me he is ate up with sports cars. I spied a 911 in my rear view mirror and moved over to let him pass. I told my boy “what you’re about to see is the only sports car your daddy would ever drive.”
He’s all about the 911 now.

Couldn’t have been a Boxster Spyder.
Actually, it was the original Boxster. I thought I had visited him in Chicago right after he graduated in 1993. However, after thinking about it, it was probably around 1996 or 1997.

I’ve always liked the Z3 and Z4. However, I must admit that they really do need to update the styling.

I had a couple Porsches, including a Boxster. Handles, fun fun fun to drive. Looks good. Great electric hardtop, just enough trunk space for golf clubs in the back and space for small luggage in the front, as it is mid-engine. Would take another in a heartbeat. I also had an RX-7 convertible, which was a nice roadster. Also had a Camaro and Mustang and the Porsche makes a them feel like an elephant under your arse.

Base model Ford F-250 crew cab 58,000. Sorry was off a tad.

There were problems with the intro '97 Boxster, as with many new models of automobiles. By the early 2000s it was the best bargain on the market. Increased performance, heated glass rear window from 2002 forward, etc. While were not dragsters in low gears, my 2001 could quickly go to 120 mph when you hit third gear and top out at 152 mph. The Turbo and later models eclipsed that by far.

My next car will be either a truck or another convertible. I'll definitely look at the Boxster although I'll probably go with a four seater. After driving the SC all these years it will be hard to give up the convertible. Having said that, until I start having issues with the SC or it starts looking ragged, I'll probably keep it. It's been garage kept its entire life and it only has 75K miles. I've never gone more than 3k miles without getting an oil change and it still looks like new. So, I may have this car for another 10 years.

really like the Miata RF with the retractable hard top. If I wasnt still in the kid hauling years that would be my choice.
I drove this for about 6 weeks. Looks great, drives great. Seems to register every bump on the road though. Ride was rough. I could fit much in the trunk either.

A LOT of weekend racers. Spec Miata is probably the largest club racing class. You can put together a very capable road racing Miata for around 30K. And besides that, they are fun as shite to drive.

Interesting rendering of a split window C8 by Rain Prisk.
Yay or nay?

New Iberia, Denham Springs, or KennahBrah?
Some people may think Chalmette, but we all know that in Chalmette it would be a Camaro.

GT4 RS
The friend I mentioned before said the dealership has had his deposit for a 4RS for so long the interest could buy the car. He was mostly joking but the dealer told him at the time “sir, they don’t make a GT4 let alone a 4RS.” He replied, “they will” and handed them a check. I guess he really wants to be first on the list.

Never been a Corvette guy except for the 1960s models, but every time I see the new Stingray I think I'm looking at European/Italian supercar. Very nice!
Still surprises me when I see the Corvette badge when I pull up to one.

I’ve not seen what the specs on it are/will be. It has to be impressive. As old as I am I still would love to daily a GT4. Of course I only drive like 3,000 miles a year so...
Call me insane but unless a person needs the back seats I can’t see a reason to jump to a 911 over a Cayman S. The exception is the 911 Turbo, GT3/2 which are in a different league.
Also looked at a Cayman S yesterday and to me it may be THE perfect sportscar. Lightweight, $hiteatinggrin tossable with enough power. Can you tell that I want one really really BAD.
