Sounds like baseless fear mongering.

Ok you you could place some Guard in the schools, when I taught we had 3 deputies at school all day . Several times I had to pull feral kids off the deputies. This deterred most kids from bringing weapons to schools. I always worried that if we stopped the one mentally ill kid from shooting up the school just maybe he would shoot up the Mall or a McDonald's instead. Don't imagine a kid with a 30-06 on the wood line next to a high school football game at night (bad movie there). You cannot protect against every possible thing.

Sounds like a great plan to keep our kids safe. Can we also put the national guard at movie theaters, dance clubs, massage parlors, outdoor concerts, King Soopers, block parties, certain Chicago neighborhoods...

Frick that. I don't even want a cop in my kid's school. Give the fricking coaches guns or something.

We could prevent 99+% of school shootings by turning schools into prisons. Biometric scanners, magnetometers, bomb-sniffing dogs/machines, guarded fences, double-gated vestibules and etc. The issue is are will willing to bear the cost, not just in money but in liberty.
Every right has a cost, most are paid in blood either upfront or on the back end. "Rights" and privileges only exist until some amount of people within the society refuse to continue to pay.

You do realize national guard members have regular jobs they need to go to. You gonna ask a guy or his employer to let him have one day a week off (or whatever you have in mind) to go patrol the school?
Sure they mobilize for emergencies, but I don’t think the intention is to make them go play cop every month for something that rarely happens.

Only if my kid can carry to protect against the NG

Let's be proactive in our approach instead of reactive.
Being proactive would entail the proper way to deal with kids who exhibit psychotic behaviors. Most of the students who commit these crimes were pegged by school authorities a long time ago, but we can’t label students anymore because it’s insensitive.
The last thing we need is emotional teachers packing heat on campuses
...and I am a teacher.

100% agree there!

God help us if my wife was packing heat anywhere

Make it easier to get rid of the troubled kids. You know the ones I am talking about.
Posted on 3/29/21 at 7:31 pm to TDsngumbo

Im probably better armed anyway

What would you think about armed national guard members patrolling each hallway and each entrance to every school? See an individual pull a gun out of a bag or clothes? Shoot them on the spot.
You realize for this to be effective you'd have to have about a good 20-30 guards roaming the halls for some certain schools. There's just no feasible way this plan ever works.
I know the plan has been shot down before, but I still think schools should allow teachers to go through some sort of training program so that they could be allowed to carry at school. I don't even mean at their hip. They can just have it at their desk in a locked box that only they know the code to.
