That children are being given academic credit based on parents' financial situation (or willingness to do anything to help their children, regardless of how inexpensive certain school supplies are). That's why I proposed a non-contribution alternative.
Like, bring in a box of kleenex OR do 10 extra math problems for 10 extra credit points. Win-win.

I wouldn't be offended... but that's pretty dumb. Why not judge the kids based on their ability to learn the subject as opposed to how much loose leaf paper they bring in?

Dude you're overthinking this...it's not like the kids that bring stuff in are going from (for simplicity purposes) a 3.0 to 5.9 GPA.

Irrelevant. The problem is that it has absolutely nothing to do with whether the child has mastered the material being taught.
I realize teachers are running classrooms on a very tight shoestring budget but giving kids a grade boost for helping out is missing the point of why they are supposed to be there.

I wouldn't bat an eye at it in elementary or middle school but seems unethical in high school when grades run on such thin GPA margins when it comes to rankings and college applications and scholarships.

Ahhhh, bullshite. The same kids who come to school every day with no supplies to work with are also generally wearing new Jordans and carrying an iPhone X. The problem is that neither they nor their parents value education in the least.

When I was in college my Quantitative Analysis professor offered bonus points if anyone could get him a life-sized cutout of Elvira (they were used in stores for beer promos). My uncle owned a bar and hooked me up with one. When I was walking to class with it, this chick whose pants I wanted to get in asked if she could get in on the deal. I had an A locked up and didn’t need the points, so I split the points with her. Still didn’t get the booty.
