Would this business idea work?

An arcade like we used to see in Malls back in the 80s, but all the games are free and you pay a flat rate for unlimited play.
Evening rate would be $20 each, where slower times would be $10?
A mixture of old and new arcade games with a time limit on the games so kids wouldn't post up on the same machine for hours.
Could be used for parties, too.

I thought arcades were dead but there was one across from my hotel in Midland and I played games and got drunk all day. It was awesome.
Your idea doesn't sound great though

How would you enforce time limits?

There is this, but I feel it could make enough to be profitable.
Malls still exist and it's 100% easier to online shop.

The arcade machines are not cheap to own and definitely not cheap to haul around.

We have a couple bars in Nashville that have free arcade games and TVs set up with video games.
They actually do pretty well,
Mario Kart and Blitz tournaments with alcohol and live music are hilarious to watch.

Not sure but there is a bar in Cincinnati, OH where I live called 16 Bit.
It has 30+ old arcade games. All are free to play, unlimited. It's such a cool place to go hang out while drinking good beer.

Two Bits
This place in Nashville has want you're talking about except all game play is free, and it's a bar.

No. If it was successful and unlimited, people would not get off the game. That would create frustrated people in line that wouldn't come back. If wasn't successful...well.

There have been a few businesses here that have tried it, none have survived. But I feel it's because of poor marketing than the idea. There's a niche market for it, but do the research right and don't just jump into it because your customers won't come looking for you

The consoles themselves are expensive, however, a good programmer can install 100s of games on a PC inside the console and allow you to select which game you want to play.
This would be for the old school games.

That is how you make it work. Don't charge at all for the game...make your $ by selling drinks and food to the people playing the games. If they are fed and have bathrooms for the occasional break...there are some people who will spend as many of their waking hours as possible in a place like that.
Scantily clad servers wouldn't hurt, either.

They get off the game when they lose. I remember lines at Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2. If you want to get someone off the machine you had to beat them.
