They only found out yesterday that they're having a boy, so they've only had the name one day. They should have asked y'all first about the name as a courtesy, but instead they asked for the monogrammed items y'all have.
So, text both of them back and tell them you're keeping the monogrammed items because y'all plan on having a third child and using the name y'all picked out over a year ago, if the child is a boy because the name has special meaning to you. Wait for the response.
OR, you wife should call her brother and tell him that y'all picked that name a long time ago, as he knows, and plan to use it if you have a boy.
This is barely 24 hours old. A dignified attempt at reconciling the issue should be made now or don't complain later.

Is it a family name or some name you came up with? I mean if it is y'alls father's name or grandfather's name I would say he has equal right to it

You should have picked a more unique name than Seven Costanza.

talking to them
OP should confront the husband and straight up ask him what's the deal. OP should make it clear he's pissed.
When the BIL whimpers and blames it on OP's sister, then OP should take it up with her and tell her to change the name.
Case closed.
I generally will take the "more flies with honey" approach, but stupid people are just too stupid to pick up on context clues. You need to be more direct.

Terrible idea.

Agreed, but it should be done in person. You can convey anger while still being dignified, but you need to be clear where you stand.

One way or another, they should let them know they plan to use the name if the next child is a boy and that they plan on having another child and they should do it now before the other wife goes off getting monograms.

The concept of unique spelling of names is worrisome to me. Frankly, your a-hole BIL may have done your future son a gigantic favor.

I support the dog option.

This would make me really mad. My brother named his kid the same name as our dog who we had for 21 years. Ridiculous. We still don't speak over it and that was back in 1989. Frick him and his kid.

I like the suggestion to tell the BIL they cannot have the monogrammed stuff as you and you wife plan on having more children and this WILL be the name of your first son.

Read up on the origin of the honeymoon. I had read it was of Viking/Nordic/Saxon origin and the bride-to-be would drink honey mead every day for a month before the wedding. The mead would slightly change the pH/acidity in her body to be more friendly to male swimmers vs female swimmers, thus increasing the odds for the first born male heir.
Even if it doesn't work, great reason to drink for a month!

How did both your brother in law and his wife get pregnant? Am I the only one who gets annoyed when people say this shite?

Well...that's pretty F'd up. I would start labeling his Christmas presents To: Douchbag. You can refer to his kid as Little D.

So we spoke and after telling him how my wife and I felt he said that he would change the name.
that of course was after I told him how big of a D-bag he was.

8 pages and still no name.

yes it would annoy me!!!
And to answer his request for the monogrammed items I would reply "sorry no-can-do. We still plan to use the name if we have a boy."

But you have no way of knowing their intent without talking to them

maybe they didn't realize how hurtful they were being
Get a grip. They fricking know, they talked about it, and they talked enough to know to ask for the monogrammed stuff. You bet your arse they had conversations about that name in the past.
