We were the first country in history created solely around the rights of the individual. We've just allowed a leviathan federal government to grow and chip away at them for hundreds of years.

I almost didn’t say Lincoln because I didn’t want the whole slave thing to come up, but Lincoln was one of, if not the, closest presidents we’ve had to a dictatorship. He suspended habeas corpus and hung journalist who spoke against him. If that isn’t against everything in the Bill of Rights, nothing is.

They would be disgusted that blacks and women were made citizens and given the right to vote.
What they did was great for the American story but let’s not pretend that it for any other reason then their own self interest at the time

The Federalization (thanks Lincoln) would bother them more than no slavery. They were the first to begin considering abolitionism. The Crown sure the hell wasn't.

Overall IMO this country has developed better than any country on this planet..... Do we have some MAJOR problems going on right now???? YES...……… But there are countries that already have it worse than we do at this very moment...……………. We WILL overcome ……… As far as our founding fathers?????? For reasons I stated above, they were some smart people….

It's hard to compare the 1700s with modern times. While it is accurate that some people were second class citizens, that was more a symptom of the time rather than the personal beliefs of the individuals who founded this country.
We also burned people at the stake because we thought they might be witches hundreds of years ago.

I don't believe they envisioned a federal income tax, which has placed way too much power in Washington, created career politicians when politics was never supposed to be a career, and made the opinions of people like Nancy Pelosi way too relevant.
