If the founding fathers could see what is going on today, they’d have said frick it and just paid the damn tax on their tea and stamps.

Anyone who thinks the founders would be pleased with the country or thinks the founding was some haphazard effort to rule themselves (especially the supposed history teacher), please watch the PBS series "A More or Less Perfect Union" by Justice Douglas Ginsburg. It is only 3 hours, so do yourself a favor and watch it. LINK
Regarding slavery, the founders who were against slavery were forced into a compromise to gain the allegiance of the southern colonies. Without their allegiance, they would have had to essentially fight a 2 front war and would have certainly lost. Not a justification of their actions, only an explanation.
