Would NOLA's continued rapid decline help or hurt surrounding areas?

With things continuing to get worse in Orleans parish, does this provide opportunity for productive residents and businesses to move to surrounding places like Metairie and Kenner? Or are the main problems too widespread and interconnected in SE LA?

Realize that the areas surrounding NOLA are better only in comparison to NOLA.

On a grand scale those areas are still not that great.

I think there’s a couple things here:

1. The health of NOLA is a benefit to all of SELA and the state.

2. Property values in surrounding areas are booming. I’m sure the desirable areas in Orleans are too, but I live in OM so can only speak for there.

3. I think the problems in Nola are largely overstated on this website. Latoya is a count, don’t get me wrong but I think TD makes it seem like it’s much worse in New Orleans than it really is.

Hopefully the degenerates would flood even more to NOLA and leave the surrounding areas making them better.

Keep all the bad ones would flood the east bank and leave the West Bank

TD's somewhat recent obsession with new orleans is strange. you can tell the majority (not all) of the people starting these threads aren't from there and never lived there.

i think it's a coping mechanism for the decline of their own towns and cities. look look, it's way worse over there!

I dont think they’re lying, but 95% of them have been saying they won’t give a dime to Nola for 5 years. If they’ve all been protesting how can any of them give an accurate representation of the city. Especially when they dont live in the city.

Most of the people on this site haven't been to NOLA in years.

And even then they never ventured upriver of 90 or past Elysian Fields.

Nooo it’s better for all things Nola to stay in Nola regardless of demographic. It’s not a race thing and applies to everyone there. People used to and okay with living in a trash banana republic that move to a nicer area are just going to have the same crap attitude there as well.

When even the liberals on r/neworleans are calling for Toya's head...it is that bad.

Yeah, but they want a more liberal agenda.

A surprising amount of them don't live in NOLA either.

They aren’t lying but this board over exaggerates everything. Paints a characture

If new orleans would cease to exist the surrounding areas would turn into south Mississippi but without beaches and casinos.

There is no mandeville without new orleans

It’s subjective I guess. I used to work in the CBD before Covid. I never got used to being around the crazy arse homeless people yelling or pissing/shitting all over, for just one thing. Or if venturing off the beaten path (like trying to bypass traffic) the very real danger in closer proximity than I’d like, even when carrying a gun myself.

Had some great times there in the past. Lived there for many years. But it’s gotten really bad and with the current leadership including police and the DA, it’s not going to get better anytime soon.

half the people there live out of state and call people racist for complaining about crime. That sub is the biggest collection of losers on the planet.

I didn’t last long before they banned me
