quote:Impossible to answer this question as is. Depends on the offense you are running. Junior boys or junior high boys? If junior high and they're running man, you should test backdoor cuts every 3rd or 4th trip down. if backdoor cuts don't work, then go back screens.
if I'm playing a team that's in Man and we are running a motion offense should my screener try to pin his guy and spin to the basket or would he sandwich the guy hes screening for who is curling?

A lot of what the screener does depends on the defender. The player coming off the screen's motion depends on the defender as well. Look up the shell drill for running motion and off ball screens.

Coach K from Duke and Pete Carill from Princeton had some good coaching tapes back in the day that I would watch. You’ll have to watch it and take bits and pieces.

Why on earth would the screener and the person he’s screening for both go to the blocks? Now you’re clogging the post, you have zero floor balance and you obviously don’t have a plan to get two guys out of the lane that you just clogged.
What you can do is have the person that was screened for rotate through the lane and back out to the perimeter. You can then screen the screener and have him drop to the blocks if he’s a player that has a little ability in the lane. You always want to balance the floor.

No shite. We scored less than 35 points last night because I'm coaching a bunch of 5'4 white boys who think they shoot like steph and refuse to attack the basket.
Tell 'em that starting next game, only the guy with the most tattoos gets to shoot.

What you need to do is put little markers down on the floor where you want your players to stand. If you play 4 guys on the peremiter and 1 down low, put some markers on the floor.
With no defense on the floor, your players should work on filling all of the spots at all times.
So if the man with the ball passes it to his right, he has a choice. He can either cut through the lane and try to get an open pass or he can screen away.
If he cuts through and doesn’t get the pass, he goes to the weak side corner, and the other two players fill one spot over.

Switch to the Triangle for the win baw!

For junior high keep it super simple. A couple plays against man and zone. Follow some youtube videos. Work more on conditioning, fundamentals and defense.

Google motion offense. Use picks a lot and get you best players mismatched. You do this by picks, rolls, ball movement until you chip away. It helps to have a really good point guard who isn’t afraid to drive, make another man pick him up and either dish it out or finish to the basket. Backscreens work and have them practice the bounce pass.

Junior boys aren’t going to pick up the ins and outs of off ball movement. Just screen the screener.

What do you mean screen the screener?
Posted on 11/6/18 at 10:44 pm to Hawgnsincebirth55
True answer is that it depends on what the defense is doing and how fundamentally sound they are. If they're not switching on screens, run the normal pick and the cutter should be open ala a UCLA cut. The key is spacing by your other players to leave the block wide open for a lay up. If they're switching, have the screener slip the screen (fake screen and when the guy tries to switch then back door cut themself) and should be open. Only one person should be on the block cutting for a pass at the end of this play no matter which you decide is better option based on the D they're playing.
Not to get overly complicated here, but if the other team is playing sound help side defense, I hope you have something in motion on the perimeter for an open jumper if they clog the paint.

What's your location?

When your pg closes in on the screen from your 5, have the 4 come and set a screen for your 5 to roll to the basket. 2 and 3 (if they can shoot) in the corners. If 4 can shoot, have him pop out to the top of the key.
Basic stuff that gives you 3-4 legit scoring options. Your more advanced perimeter players will read and react to the help defense.

Run an offense that focuses on passing the ball. Work the ball down low and make any kid that shoots a stupid shot run at practice. You can't get too complex. I think ball control is key at that age

Will this work if they switch or only if they try to fight through the screen?

Just teach them solid basic rules, and to not travel. I havent watched an nba game in almost a decade. Horrible game for us that were taught strict fundamentals.
Good luck. Remember being a good mentor is key, but also making sure they remember you are the coach, which needs to be respected.
