What if the cops could call a timeout when shite starts to get crazy... then they could get out a camera on a tripod and call out an extra person to do the filming.
(I hope you guys got that reference.)

The body cameras they have now are poorly placed. Most are right in the center of the chest, so when an officer draws his gun we see the back of his gun and his arms and can't see anything else. It would be better if they were up near their head somehow, but I'm not sure how that would work.

I've never seen how the body cams work, but that does not seem like a very good idea. Should make it like a pin.

Wait I got it! What if the criminals started wearing body cameras!

There's a shortage in local departments. Federal money is what flows a little more liberally. The best way for them to get decent equipment across the board is if they have a good grant writer.

They need to get the ones Darien Long used. Those took a beating and stayed on.

Usually small city PDs. Most of the Sheriff's Departments and state police don't have a lack of resources.
I just don't think cost is as big of a factor as some of these entities make it out to be.

quote:This may be true in most states... but not Louisiana. The LSP is in big money trouble right now. And so is NOPD. BRPD was in a bad place not long ago. 700 officers total for a city this size is WAY under standard.

Body cameras are only good if:
1)They can be shown to everyone regardless of who is at fault
And
2)They can't be turned off/thrown off prior to an incident.
It seems like items 1 & 2 are the biggest problems to much wider implementation.

Body cameras are attached to their shirts with a magnet. I tried to get my husband's off last night just to see how easily it moves. I simply hit it and it fell off. So it's not that hard to believe that wresting a big man to the ground knocked the body cameras off. Don't fault them. They didn't design them. They are wearing them as they are supposed to. It's still a new concept so there are things they need to fix, but they are wearing them.

NO
Doesn't fit agenda, and media would pick and choose which parts of video to see.
Don't remember the Zimmerman shite, where CNN took the picture and brightened it, so you couldn't see his head wound and blood. Thankfully Fox got the same picture and showed you what it really looked like, his head with gas and blood coming from it.(not fox watcher, pics posted on twitter)
Agenda!!!!

I agree with that, but the local PD's make up a huge portion. Some have an inordinate amount of money while others have everything in their department completely outdated. Can't pay anything outside of salary, either.

Well that's just dumb, especially on a police officer who already has a ton of things velcroed and pinned on.

Body cameras DON'T FALL OFF when the bad guy COMPLIES! Mr. Alton didn't comply in anyway.

I have trouble feeling bad for Alton. He was a felon, with a gun who once raped a 13 year old. I have a hard time caring for people like that.
The Minnesota guy to me may have been murdered though. Sad all around.
I know that won't happen to me though, I learned how to respect authority and realized even if they are wrong the only place to fight them is in the court room.
