There has always been a political tone in some comedians, I just think people are more sensitive about it.
I used to be a David Letterman fan. In his monologue he would make jokes about whoever was in office or any politician who did something a joke could be made out of. And whether you supported that person or not, it was funny..
Now, people are too sensitive and comedians seem to only stick to one side.
Like Steven Colbert. Jesus Christ... When David Letterman was on and I hadn't feel asleep yet I would always watch, now I can't even put the Late Night show on.
Its no secret, I am not a fan of Trump, but from what I have seen (which isn't much and I might be wrong), Colbert goes on rants instead of just making a joke. I don't care what side someone is on, if you are supposed to be a comedian, I don't want you to pass off your dislike for the other side as jokes. That's just lazy.
The last comedy show I attended in Baton Rouge was at the Texas Club, which was.. Maybe a year and a half, two years ago.. To go see John Morgan. I had tickets to go see Chappelle & Rogan in April... But Corona fricked that all up... But I hear other cities like Austin, St Louis, smaller cities throughout the states they supposedly has a great comedy scene...... But BR has absolutely nothing.

Baton Rouge could - basically do a 3rd street comedy festival with a few "notable" names at night, although New Orleans would still remain a better option.
For BR would need a right sized venue. I think "The Basin" (what 1913 turned into when it was sold) was supposed to be able to support comedy acts.
In BR I've seen Brian Regan, Gabriel Iglesias, Colin Mocherie/Brad Sherwood as far as nationally recognizable names go and there was a crowd each time.
Mark Normand and Theo Von are from Louisiana, if there's any chance of a local discount. Normand is probably at the point now where he'll travel with his own openers so you could probably start with an open mic setup a few hours before the official show.
Although, all of these guys are going to be starving for work after not being allowed to do their job for 6 months. There may be a wall of comics available for fairly cheap just to get some time in.

And if there was ever a time to build a comedy scene in Baton Rouge it would be now.. Or once they get this COVID shite under control.
Just from listening to several comedian's podcast, it seems like a lot of comedy clubs are going to be in a jam and there will be some, if not a lot, that will shut down. I've heard the Comedy Store in L.A. be mentioned several times as a place that could possibly shut down.

I was one of the few dozen people that saw Mishka Shibali (I know I’m butchering the spelling) when he performed at Happy’s a year or 2 ago. I actually was attending a few comedy open mics before covid.

Houston has a good bit of comedians that I’m sure would be willing to travel for a big enough show. John Wessling & Sam Demaris are two names off the top of my head.

It would quickly devolve into mostly being just black comedians making fun of whites (because that's the only group it's safe to make fun of) and supporting BLM. This would draw the NBR crowd by the scores and thus at least one shooting would occur.
