Passed in opposite direction, looked in rearview mirror to see what ensued. Dog flew into ditch. Other car stopped.

two cars racing in traffic right before one clipped me and sent me ioff of I-10 on Morrison curve in NO East. Driver ended up hitting concrete barrier head on and was messed up. Par for the course in NOLA, car was stolen so my insurance covered my car and my wife and my injuries.

I saw a guy on a motorcycle lose control of his bike on Airline HWY and tumble about five or six times. I called an ambulance to the scene. Did not learn of his status afterwards.

On a two lane road into Hot Springs, AR where there's usually steady traffic (during horse racing season) and the speed limit is 65. The line of cars I was in suddenly came to a screeching halt from 60+ mph and I just barely managed to stop in time, as well as the cars in front of me.
Since we were stopping so quickly I naturally looked in my rear view mirror to see the massive Dodge dually truck behind me get hit so hard that the entire rear end lifted off the ground 3-4 feet and slammed down. The driver and passenger were both unconscious for a short time and had several injuries, and the two vehicles involved had to both be totaled.

I-10 NOLA to BR over the lake/spillway area. Don't know what initiated the crash but happened to glance up as a minivan lost control and went practically head on into the sidewall. Parts and smoke and crashes behind it. Only thing I'm sure of is the bridge must have been shut down for hours. Don't know what happened to any of the drivers or passengers.

Saw a pickup coming on to I-55 in McComb MS. Highway was wet and he lost control, crossed the median and hit a southbound car head on. I found out later that a woman in the car that hit the truck died at the scene. I saw the whole thing in my rear view mirror. Very sad, happened so fast.

From a morality standpoint you're equally responsible for this. You weren't paying attention to the cars braking in front of you so you swerved last second to avoid hitting them. The person behind you didn't even have a chance to brake because by the time they saw the stopped cars it was too late.
Every time I see someone do this I just think about how much of an inconciderate a-hole they are. You could have easily caused a 4 or 5 car wreck.

A few years ago I was driving into my office in Atlanta westbound on I-20 in morning rush hour. They have since redone the area where I-20 merges onto I-285 Norrh but back then it was kind of a death trap. Traffic would back up in that lane because it was one of those almost full circle ramps to go North on 285. You had to be aware that if in that lane, you go from 75-80mph to almost a full stop while cars zip by on both sides at regular speed.
This particular morning, I had come to a full stop but being a defensive driver I left about 2 car lengths between me and the car in front of me. I kept an eye on my rear view mirror and saw an 18 wheeler barreling down on me at a high rate of speed. He was closing fast. At about 50 yards I started to bolt into the lane to my right and saw him suddenly lock his brakes down hard. His cab went almost 90 degrees to the left and smoke from the brake friction was crazy. His rig barely had time to slow down at all and I saw him smash into the cars that had been right in front of me. I believe the occupants of the car in front of me were killed instantly as his rig had to be still doing about 50. All I saw as I was moving away was a bunch of cars in front of that one car being impacted like dominos. It all happened so fast. It caused the interstate to be closed for several hours while they cleared the scene.
Every morning after that I made sure to start tapping my brakes repeatedly when I was approaching that slow down area of that lane. I would start tapping at about 400 yards to try to give anybody behind me something to alert them in case they were not familiar with that dangerous ramp.

When ideas 16 I was driving my mom's mini van to a HS basketball game. It was raining like a mofo, dark, and I was distracted being as I was just a teenager with a fan full of other teenagers.
It was a 4 lane road, with no turn lanes, so if someone turned, everyone behind them had to stop (or changeto the other lane).
I was in the right lane and either the car in front of me didn't turn their blinker on or I didn't notice it until the last minute and I jerked it over into the left lane to avoid rear ending the vehicle that was turning right.
The vehicle behind me was following me too closely and couldn't see over/around me since I was in a van. when I jerked it over into the left lane....SURPRISE!! They had a stopped car right in front of them. I looked in the rear view and saw headlights bouncing, going off thru the ditch and into the yard of the driveway of the house the other car was turning into.
I didn't stop or turn around ....didn't want to miss tipoff since it was the playoffs.
Actually I was afraid to turn around truth be told. But it wasn't like they were in the middle of nowhere.
This was '91-92, so no cell phones.
I've seen some other serious shite, like what happens when a car runs under the trailer of an 18wheeler and gets sawed off level with the hood/trunk. But that wasn't in the rear view, so I won't mention that.

I thought if another one. Passed a black cow standing in the middle of a bridge one night, then furiously started flashing my lights at the oncoming car. It was a truck, actually, and he was hauling arse on a farm to market Texas highway trying to get to his job (I later find out) at one of the prisons in this here part of the country.
Looked in rearview mirror to see his brake lights immediately followed by seeing his side lamps (he hit the cow and went into a spin).
Dude had a nasty laceration from hitting his forehead on the steering wheel but his white trash dodge pickup was a goner (the poor cow too).

I was on I-10 and watched an old SUV lose control and flip in he middle of the road. Really close to the 10/12 split. Guy must have had his entire office in his trunk because hundreds of pieces of paper flew into the sky and rained down as he was flipping. I watched it all in my rear view...was the last car through the interstate for awhile.
