1957 Audrey

Audrey was the first major hurricane to form in the GOM since 1945. It caught a lot of people unprepared resulting in so many deaths.

Call me superstitious, paranoid, traumatized, whatever- I generally don't like to consider this subject at this time of they year

Been through a few, some have hit worse than expected (more damage from a lesser storm). Gotta remember, the 2016 flood was a stalled depression or something along those lines. We didn't get wind, just rain.... feet of rain. Like the Gulf of Mexico took a big piss on the BR area.

In eastern part of BR.... Gustav in 08!

Andrew 92' & Ida (fortunate to be on weaker western eye wall side) battled for 2nd place

4th Rita nearly dropping a foot of rain; never saw water rise so fast!

5th Great Flood of 2016 due to inland Tropical Wave

Katrina. Didn’t affect our home directly being in an area that didn’t have direct impact but damn the entire Nola/JP/Tammany impact sure did in other ways, and for many months. We hauled arse the Saturday before.

Ida. We stayed, north shore Tammany, and it was so bad psychologically hearing it all. Damage was nil thank God. Week of hotel rooms and power back on. Clean up was so much faster than Katrina.

So as far as direct experience, Ida, only because I was here, but the recovery was much faster.

Ida because I was an adult and had to do everything myself luckily I paid attention to my father in Katrina but that wasn't the worst part.

No damage by some miracle but area got devastated and had a fresh baby and couldn't live in my house for a fricking month. That got old real quick, then insurance company went bankrupt and my note spiked with the new insurance.

Making preparations to move. I have no intention of going through that again. Glad my house has appreciated as much as it has but i'm sick of LA.

Hurricane Michael in 2018, while living in east Panama City for work. Had Michael made landfall on any major city it would have been unfathomable.

North LA here, so Laura. I don't get how you baws deal with that shite year in and year out. I'm not easily spooked. It scared the living shite outta me. Have a bad feeling this warm gulf won't do us any favors this season.

Ida, being in the eastern eye wall for 6 plus hours here in Ponchatoula was not fun.

Andrew - Big oak fell on neighbor's garage
Katrina - Had strangers living in my apartment from NO
Gustav - Blew off my attic fan
Irma - Street filled with 3' of water for about 2 months and saw 140+ mph wind gusts.

Ian - While I had no damage, the devastation that you still see at Frt. Myers Beach is incredible. Times Square is just a bunch of foundations from former businesses. It truly looks like the apocalypse, even over 6 months later. Houses just across 1-75, along the Imperial were flooded. The 150+ mph winds were nothing compared to the surge.

Amazing Video of the Storm Surge at Frt. Myers Beach

2 people and a dog were in that house and survived. People's belongings were hanging in the mangroves, across the street from the beach. People are still finding random stuff on the beach. Everything at ground level is gutted. So, my vote is Ian.

Was on the main gate until midnight at new river air station when Hugo hit then on patrol in a hummer until 6am. That was a pretty scary night for sure.
