Back when the majority of Americans actually gave a shite about America.

My 7th grade science teacher used to talk about how his father ran the local black market. They had stacks and stacks of tires in their barn.

Here's Queen Elizabeth on VE Day with Winston Churchill and her father, King George VI.

The Queen actually served as a mechanic during WWII.

The 2 minutes of silence they used to (maybe still do?) observe on May 4th in the Netherlands for the end of WWII for them was eerie. Everything stopped. Traffic, pedestrians, radio broadcasts, total absolute silence.

Always thought about this picture.....Those guys probably didn't give a damn about different government ideologies at that moment in time. They were probably just a bunch of war-weary soldiers who were happy to have made it to that point and were still alive. The years of animosity that would follow had little to do with them....

Those Russian soldiers were sent to the gulags for having been contaminated by their contact with western troops.

They had no idea, they were children. They were doing a job no one else wanted to do, but had to be done.

Sadly, today those millions of people celebrating VE Day would be ADMONISHED for celebrating while the troops fighting the Pacific were raging on.

I miss the simpler times.

I really wish we’d beaten the Russians to Berlin.

And the next day, the 'Cold War' started with Russia!

So many different factors. What if FDR lived through the end of the war? What if he died before Malta? (There's already a story out there about the ship he was on being close to becoming a U-boat casualty.) Ike was ordered to slow down and let the Russians take Berlin after all they had been through. (Poor Berlin women should've raced west as they flowed in.) The situation eerily repeated itself with Bush 41 not finishing off Saddam because of Russian objections. Instead intelligence was always concentrated on Saddam until a few bombings took place and Clinton needed to send missiles after OBL to distract from the release of his deposition when he lied about getting his dick sucked.

The list of massive what-ifs of history the past century are almost as long as every century before it combined.

Nazi's should've never invaded Russia. The west wanted none of that machine.
