whats better for the people that choose to go work and make way more money than they would picking thru trash to recycle shite for a living and living in a cardboard box.
Funny Story.
I am military currently in Qatar for six months. We went downtown to one of the malls one day. They had a western union kiosk and 30 minutes prior to the kiosk even opening there was a line of probably 200 people waiting to send money. Mostly workers sending money back home one would assume.

My parents have friends who were basically evacuated a month after getting transferred. The family's driver got in a wreck while bringing them around and someone got seriously hurt. Apparently under their law the foreigner is always responsible, because if the foreigner weren't there, their driver wouldn't have been in that location to be involved in a wreck. Pretty fricked up.
There's also a bunch of racism. My professor's friend worked for a University there and went through hell. I think he said she's from Sri Lanka (somewhere with lots of dark skinned people) and everyone looked down on her. That city was built on the backs of poor, dark skinned immigrants, so everyone just assumed that's who she is. They also imported Filipinos to do manual labor and treat them like shite. They've caught a lot of flack, along with FIFA, about this (since they're hosting the 2022 World Cup).
On top of all that, there's such an unrealistic, fake, superficial feel (at least for me) to the Emirates that I could never live there. Kind of like Las Vegas.

There's only two ways you aren't paying taxes.
A) You're making less than $96,000 a year which is not a very good income for a person living in Dubai, and you're out the US 330 days minimum.
B) Your company is paying your taxes for you.
You need to find out what the company is providing. Visa's, local taxes, goods and services etc. A income double to what you make in the US, especially the south, can quickly evaporate.

To add to redstick'to post: any housing or car allowance is also taxable. So if your company provides housing and a car allowance that will count toward the $96k.
And it's any amount over $96k.

embassy in Dubai? Seems like an easy fix would be to go there and get a new copy.
They're bonded laborers which means they've paid a deposit to their employers. In many cases, it's worth a couple of years of salary. So if they go to the embassy, they lose the deposit which is a loan to begin with. It's messed up.

Go ahead. If you would knowingly enjoy living off of the backs of slaves, you're a bad person. Tell me where I'm wrong in that
You are wrong in that, however no more wrong than in nearly every comment you make.

I've worked a few months in Abu Dhabi recently, which is close enough. They treat white Euros/Canadians/Americans/Aussies well. Everyone else, not so much (to put it as lightly as possible).
Awesome food.
As long as you play by their rules, you're safe. If you don't, god help you.

I can see how people would enjoy it. It's an adult theme park where as a white collar expat, you don't have to work very hard, get paid very well, have endless entertainment at your disposal like a ski resort in the middle of the dessert. They artificially recreate everything that you would deem fun and entertaining, but it doesn't feel real. Many are fine living that life and look the other way when it comes to other stuff such as slave labor and open discrimination. Many Americans can't.

Singapore dude. How is that even a question?
The people from Singapore we work with are fully westernized.
Some of the other places, not so much.

Singapore is a much better place. Similar to Dubai but a much richer history and culture backed with tough rules but they apply to everyone. The only downside would be the very high cost of living and tough work environment. They will work you hard there. All good though.

To soberly put it (sorry for my drunken ramblings last night everyone) this is how I feel. There's just something dirty about that ski resort and knowing how and why it was built. It's just in my moral fiber to detest such a thing and see below the surface on what exactly is going on. If you can simply focus on the surface, then fine, but I tend to look at the depths of everything. I'd be utterly miserable the entire time I was in Dubai being surrounded by that.
