Are you there for show or there to work?

If you are there to prove competence but not content (like you have a fancy degree or are athletic or from a connected family), it's awesome.

If you are there to work, you will probably come back with a pill addiction (and learn all the forms of booze you really never wanted to know existed).

Looked into apartments and I can find a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, with central AC near the metro for 800. I wouldn't need a car so I would sell mine here if I got the job.

be careful that you arent in an indian slum. id probably do google street view to see what it looks like.

I say go for it. another cool thing is that all the cool places to go are on that side of the world.

Also, I would make sure I was going work for a big multinational company. Im not sure what kind of work you do but I would want to work somewhere that there are alot of expats.

arabs are quite different in how they approach work and stuff.

Yup, had a buddy that was drugged, robbed and ended up in prison for a while. Luckily he got out somehow. Be careful over there.

have an interview on the 11th, already found a place to stay with central AC for 850 a month, just curious if it is worth going.
850 a month there is really cheap. Proceed with caution.

It may be a slum, I know that it is only 7 miles from where I would be employed so I could ride a bike. Now I would have to get the job first.

my thoughts are, and maybe I am off base, but if you live with indians you will get treated like indians. you dont want to get treated like indians.

This seems like a bad idea. No way I'm going to Dubai for less than 200K and living in an Indian slum. Seems like this just for attention based on this and the travel board thread.

I say go for it. My only warning is make sure that it is easy for you to exit if you decide you dont like it. the arab world is much different than here. if you arent arab you are fighting a losing battle from the jump in any conflict. I may be wrong, but I dont believe you can just leave the country if you find your self in some kind of legal issue. If I remember right, you can get sued for just about anything over there, even just talking the wrong way to someone.

Well that is not good

2-year contract
Hotel for first 10 days provided
airfare to and from paid for
2x my current salary
no taxes
1 month off a year

according to the paperwork they sent me, I would be responsible for room and board after the 10 days and utilities. Plus any other expense I would have while over there.

I'm friend with a guy that's Indian but from Dubai. Arabs are assholes. No way I'm living somewhere as a second class citizen. Being white helps but you aren't British.

My management recently asked me if I would prefer the Middle East or Singapore.

In each case they provide me a home with people who take care of it.

I am seriously considering it for the $$ and fast track.

So, short story is that when he told her they were moving to Dubai, she cried for two days. Two years later, when he told her they were leaving Dubai, and headed back to Mandeville, she cried for a week.

Awwweee, so she loved living in a slave state over her own home. How horrible that she had to leave...

quote:

Some great stories from over there. He was kind of a slob. But his condo had live-in servants. He would walk in from outside, take off his shirt, and throw it on the floor. Then, he'd go to the fridge and get a cold drink, turn around, and his shirt had vanished. An hour later it would appear laundered and folded on his bed. He said it was like living with ghosts.

He also said they would go to parties where there would be $25,000 worth of caviar set out in ice goblets on a buffet. Maybe 20-30 people at the party. Maybe 5% of the caviar gets eaten. When the party is over, the servants spoon the caviar into the trash. No big deal.

He also said that making money is so easy over there, that the family companies are usually turned over to the son at age 19 or 20. He will run it for 6-8 years to keep busy. Then, he will retire and get married and have kids at about age 30. Then turn the company over to a younger cousin or something.

Making money is so easy, it's not considered legitimate work for an adult. It's literally child's play.

As a side note, he said they absolutely murdered the sailfish, Dorado, and cobia when he was over there. They'd load the boat by 8 am and be back in by 9:30. Because it was too hot to fish after that.

He'd go back in a heartbeat.

I hope all of this is sarcastic, because if not, your friend is a deplorable human being. This is Nazi shite you're talking about. You might as well be saying "Oh yeah, he makes so much more money than those Jews and they keep everything spotless. It's such a wonderful place, despite the graveyards being filled of slaves."

Shame on you if you are being serious on this and shame on anyone who upvoted that post. Your friend is an utter twat if this is true.

Like I said, be careful. you can easily get fricked there, especially if someone you work for is influential or has money. they operate different there and in no way will you have any clout over an arab.

alot of the things I am talking about is what makes it a nice place, but be careful.

nobody is forcing the indians to go work there. they may get fricked in some instances but so does anyone else. its not like these guys go in not knowing what is up. these guys are living in boxes back home in shithole india. this is a way for them to come make some money and take care of their families.

this is how many people live in poor parts of india

Why not wait and see if you get the job then speak to your employer about recommendations for living?
