I mean, everything is shutting down in terms of “vacation” spots... if you want to spend a week at home playing XBOX, then that’s your call

I have two half brothers who are in grade school that live close by, i was going to use the "oh im going to help my dad out with them" line to see if they could budge.

Yes you would be a shitty employee. Don’t a free loader and look at this as a time to take a taxpayer funded vacation

My younger employees (no kids) who are willing and able to work are getting valuable training and experience outside their normal duties. This will help them out in the future (more pay, etc.).

I say if you can accomplish something like I am talking about then go to work for sure.

nah i wouldnt be able to take the full two weeks off obviously. Just use a day here and there.
Especially right now, due to the virus, we are super slow in my industry. Our customers are closing down their shops for the time being, and half of our plant baws arent here since we gave them time to figure out what to do with their kids.

Like i said, give us a damn laptop and let us work from home and we wouldnt even be having this problem

but im also worried about the co workers with kids who are stuck.
The kids are off for four weeks while they're only giving out one weeks worth of PTO. I mean just give everyone a laptop and let them work and earn their money from home without having to worry about coming into the office

while I get it, and if the business lends itself to that, then of course.

I wonder if there are any smokers trying to take advantage because they are at higher risk.

Free breaks.

Now, free PTO.

However, they said that it is mainly for the employees with children who are affected by the school closures.

I'm 23 and do not have any kids. Would I be a shitty employee if I still used these up?

Don't use it. This is a time of emergency and companies are trying to do what they can. Sure there are some bottom feeders that will try to take advantage of it, but in the long term it will only come back to haunt them in regards to respect in the work place and promotions. If you are healthy and can work then just do the right thing and work. It's really not that complicated to just do the right thing.

Yet.

We've all been there as the young employee who has to step up for people with kids. Just go into work unless you are sick. Someday you'll be the one needing a 23 year old to cover your arse.

So you want to be -40 of hrs of PTO for nothing? They aren’t giving you 40 hrs, I’m sure. You will have to pay that back.
