I think the wrong pronunciation is so common that it has become acceptable.
We've done this thread before. G in GIF stands for graphic, hence why some use the hard "G". The person who invented the format uses the soft "G" pronunciation, so that's the one I use. Everyone I know says the hard "G" though.

Biopic. I still have to slow down and make sure to pronounce it bio-pic instead of bi-ah-pic (like you would pronounce bionic).
I still pronounce that as bi-op-ic, just like I would pronounce biography. I don't care that it's wrong... plus I hardly ever say the word aloud, so no one else cares what it sounds like in my head.

Yeah I knew "gif" would trigger a few folks based on the last thread we had on the subject, so I threw it out there.
In reality, "gif" is one of those words that I avoid saying aloud like the plague. I usually stumble through saying it with a soft g, repeat it with a hard g, and then follow it up by saying "or however the hell you say it." It is a train wreck.

I have trouble pronouncing asbestos. I always want to say absestos.

"Gif" is another one. I used to be an idiot and think it was pronounced with a hard "g", but now I'm enlightened and understand it is pronounced like the peanut butter.
It stands for Graphics Interchange Format...I don't understand how you would pronounce it "JIF". I would think that it should be pronounced with a hard "G", and that is how I will continue to pronounce it.
My trigger is HEPA. I always pronounce it HEE-PAH, while others pronounce it HEP-AH. I guess it depends on how you pronounce "Efficiency" as to which is correct.

Agreed.
The first time I heard someone say bio-pic correctly, I thought they were being a smartass or something. Couldn't believe that was the actual pronunciation.

Well you just took mine. It's meem. I said me-me for a while until someone corrected me.

Input and imput
I know imput isn't a word, but sometimes can't help myself from saying it the wrong way

Ciabatta
I have pronounced it ki-batta since I can remember. My fiancée finally had enough and said it was chi-batta. The jury is still out in this one for me.

Meme and gif have given me completely unnecessary stress when trying to discuss them aloud. I already feel like an idiot trying to a thread on TigerDroppings in the first place, and gif and meme only compound the problem.

Athlete is another one I hear mispronounced all the time. It is ATH-leet, not ATH-a-leet.
Arctic is a good one too. I say drop the first "c" all the time.

English 1001 at LSU. "For all intensive purposes." Got a C on that paper.
Also, Usufruct.

Acai for me.
I'd say a-k-e instead of ah-sa-e.
Side note, I hate it when people pronounce the "L" in salmon.
Also, when people refer to their drivers licence as a plural thing. ie.
"Hey do you have your drivers licence?"
"Yes, I got them when I turned 16."
