Damn was up till 4 am watching sets of it on YT.

I can’t fathom how people can do that - thrash for several hours in the heat in the mob of thousands and then at the end of the day, then what? Did y’all actually sleep?

Looks like crazy fun but I think after 1 day I’d be taken out on a stretcher.

The Korn set from the first night is insane.

I can appreciate, somewhat, the music of NiN and Korn for their originality and some of the members' individual talents, but I just will never, for the life of me, understand how people can listen to that for long periods of time.

I hate pop country but at least I can kind of understand how people enjoy the cheeseball catchy lyrics.

I really don't have a favorite genre of music and will give anything a shot, my playlists are all over the place. So it isn't me having a closed mind at all. I've got a buddy that loved Korn back in the day and I would really listen to it and try to get it, but couldn't.

F’ Woodstock 99. Woodstock 94 was much better. I was stationed at Fort Drum NY during WS94. We got it on pay per view and started drinking in the barracks at noon on Saturday. Around 4pm a buddy of mine decided he was going to drive down to WS and hang out there until Sunday. That crazy arse got there around 8pm. Said he had to park about 10 miles away and walk to the field.

Meanwhile we stayed in the barracks, drank ourselves sober then drunk again by midnight. There were probably 20-30 of us hanging out in the hallway. We had the door to our room open and the radio turned up as loud as it would go. Occasionally we went in the room when a good song came on.

The next day we had to clean up before inspection on Monday. My roommate and I were both underage. But we had at least 5 cases of empty beer cans in our room.

It was a fun weekend. I’m pretty sure the Military Police were called on us a few times that weekend because we were a little crazy.

Insane thing is no one got arrested or in trouble for it.

Watched on pay per view as we had a hot box at the time. Only thing I remember was Red Hot Chili Peppers coming out wearing nothing but tube socks on their junk

I was off studying hard while these worthless fricks partied and rioted.

So it is a lot like the 60s after all.

Same here. I have an almost embarrassingly-wide range of music tastes but I never could get into those bands, specifically, Korn, Bizkit, and similar.
However it does seem like fun brainless jamming/moshing stuff, probably perfect for Woodstock 99.

Watching now. To be fair, the documentary does touch upon the false mythology of Woodstock 69 being peaceful.

It’s a told from pretty shitty viewpoint of what had happened. Columbine even got a few minutes of air time for comparison while moby cried in the background

Yeah, their narrative doesn't quite add up.

I'm not discounting the misogyny of Nu Metal, but Nu Metal wasn't the only misogynistic music genre of the late 90s.

Also, the riots and looting escalated to full on arson during the RHCP set. RHCP are generally considered to be a politically progressive band.

Wycleff Jean's Hendrix "tribute" might be the most pathetic thing I've ever seen.

They are pushing the "white men are subhuman" narrative hard. But all I can think about while watching this is how pretty much every one of these bands caused me to stop listening to current music in the late 90s.

The one chick they kept going to that hates all white men and is ready for all the baby boomers to die just about ruined it for me

Of the major popular genres of the late 90s, both rap and Nu Metal were feeding on a bunch of negative energy as a counter to the bubblegum pop of the boy bands.

I know Blink-182’s breakthrough album came out in 1999, but I wonder how famous they were at the time Woodstock 99 happened. I wonder if their particular energy wasn’t much needed at the festival? Guitar driven rock, but with a lighter humorous tone to it.

I was 19 at the time and loved a lot of those bands. I saw Korn and Limp Bizkit live several times, and they always put on a good show.

Fck I’m about to start watching it now and expecting some bullshite. Hope it’s at least tolerable. I’ve already seen many individual sets from it on YT and they were cool for the most part.
