Wondering where we went wrong……

Maybe I’m under the false assumption but I thought most people wanted -
Safe schools
Good schools
Safe neighborhoods
Safe cities
Good jobs
Good amenities
Clean cities
I have both my kids with 32 and 35 ACT and over 4.0’s with full rides to major universities. All my cousins are college graduates even though my fathers 6 brothers and sisters had 1 graduate HS. They knew education or trade was the way. They never had it. Me and my cousin said everything we were taught was wrong -
Work hard
Get stuff on merit
Earn it
Educate yourself
Crime doesn’t pay
Keep your nose clean
Be respectful
Somewhere along the line we have gone the wrong way. It’s upside down now.
Safe schools
Good schools
Safe neighborhoods
Safe cities
Good jobs
Good amenities

I find it interesting that someone who is making themself to be far above the majority of the population in most metrics in life wonders why the rest of the peasants are unhappy with the system. 
If everyone had 4.0s and 36 act scores the OP would suddenly feel very average.

Y’all don’t want to hear this but y’all (cough cough boomers cough cough) wanted cheap widgets from China instead of well made slightly more expensive American goods so we sent all the factories offshore and took all the jobs away that regular folks could work

Most people want the above, they just have differing ways of doing it. The right wants to raise most boats but leave some people drowning, while the left wants to remove the water so all boats are sitting on the ground. The right approach should be embracing most people moving up while attempting to catch the people who fall behind, but that's extremely difficult when there is no shared goal.
