I was walking my 18 lb dog with my 15 month old in a red Ryder bike type thing with my SO. A pit on a leash was walking on the other side of the street in southdowns. I literally was freaked out watching the male owner try to calm his pit down. He was having an extremely hard time and my only thought was what if the chain broke or collar.

I have been around cool pits but this one struck the fear of God in me knowing I got my whole family in his presence. frick pit bulls. Only dog on the planet that are a liability to neighbors. It's crazy to see a male owner about 6 foot 180 lb struggling to keep him in check while a family enjoying a relaxing walk.

There's just no argument that justifies the risk of this breed being legal. I understand that there are plenty of them that are harmless, but they are statistically so much more dangerous than any other breed it's midboggling. There's nothing an owner gets from owning a Pit that they can't get from a number of other breeds without the risk. I think they will be made illegal eventually, but sadly it's probably going to take a slow news cycle and some beautiful girl or boy getting mauled horrifically on camera for anyone to take action. And Pit owners don't need to respond with your counterarguments. There's nothing you can say that will undo all the killing and violence from that breed in recent and not so recent history.

SCOTTISH TERRIER............................

How many fatalities do those breeds cause compared to pits though?

I'll hang up and listen.

Do a group of horses typically chase you down and eat your face off?

Can you imagine the carnage a gang of rogue horses and Scottish terriers would cause if unleashed on the public. The death toll would be epic.

don't you love the
"way more people die by x-y-z than [insert dog here]" crowd?

A dog attacking someone =/= someone die from riding a horse improperly or an accident happening.

Theoretically,
One could be completely prevented, don't ride them.
The other? You can't

When walking you should be carrying your firearm.

Pit runs up, put it down

The American Staffordshire is the same as the American Pitbull Terrier. The term pitbull refers to multiple breeds and includes the APBT.

You are so full of shite it is not even funny!!! They are not the same dog!!! They share common ancestors but branched off into different purposes for the breed existing.

Yeah so I’m finding some way to put those dogs down. I find it highly unusual two dogs killed another dog and weren’t put down unless there is something else to the story I’m missing. But even if there was something else that would explain the behavior it’s still two dogs that killed another. Must be put down. Could be a neighborhood kid next time.

That's not true entirely.

Where would trailer park baws get their bawlls from if they didn't have them pits on the end of their chains.

Mostly it's the Staffordshire terrier that gets the Pitt name.
But tell a pitt bull breeder that it's not a breed

Pitt Bull is short for American Pitt Bull Terrier. It is a breeed.

I’m thankful our HOA doesn’t allow people to have this breed in our neighborhood.

only cops can shoot dogs and not have a good explanation why. "that chihuahua growled at me!"

same here. Pitt lovers always pull the "you are more likely to get bit by chihuahuas or scotties" argument. the little dogs aren't going to tear your damn arm off. worst case is a few stitches.

"but labs bite people too" yeah but they don't hang on until you are dead

I had a black lab duck dog that got into it with a pit once.

is he a pure lab though? labs aren't usually fighters. I have a lab/akita mix that is about as laid back as can be but have another dog growl at me or my nieces/nephews and he puts himself in between and is ready to rumble. really awesome dog around the kids...he goes out to where they are playing and keeps watch. he keeps snakes and such away from them. I have a second little dog that tears his ears up and such and he lets her lol

You don't do statistics do you bro?

First of all, Pitbull breeds probably outnumber Scottish Terriers a thousand one so it stands to reason you're going to have a lot more fatalities and bites by sheer number. But that's not what matters, per capita is what matters. New Orleans isn't dangerous because it has a lot of murders, New Orleans is dangerous because it has a lot of murders for its given population. Chicago likely has five times as many murders as New Orleans but it also has 20 times the population so your chances of getting killed there a lot slimmer. This is why per capita is the only statistical category that matters when assessing risk.

What you want to know is what are your chances of getting bit By Any Given breed. It's surprisingly low 4 Pitbull breeds. Also, pit bulls are medium sized breeds. Definitely something you can kick away. I mean, if a 1.5 foot human that weighed 60 pounds came at you you don't think you could handle him? I would be more worried about Mastiffs, doggo Argentinos, Rottweilers and Doberman Pinschers. Those dogs are tall enough to reach your neck and heavy enough to knock you down. There's a reason that historically people used German Shepherds and Doberman Pinschers as guard dogs not pitbulls. Pitbulls were bred to kill other dogs, Doberman Pinschers were bred to kill other humans.
