I follow that crazy fricker on Facebook. Thought he was posting a lot less.

He has two Boomslangs that he handles all the time. It is crazy.

He had a Gaboon Viper too that was a baby. Not nearly as deadly but the time from placid to bit is less than a blink.

Did he live?

I treat wild snakes like fungi. I assume it's dangerous.

Leave it alone.

Haven’t heard any news on his condition. Though I’ve heard they came in and euthanized all his snakes.

It’s crap like this that gives us all a bad name - which has everyone rooting against him.

Yeah. That will get them all fricked up.

Funny how the "always free handlers" usually end up coming around to using a hook after a bite and a very expensive hospital stay. The Chandler dude on YouTube is one of those.

I agree with you but that doesn’t change the fact that a Glock does have an external safety and to say otherwise is false. And judging by the amount of downvotes I received there are a lot of people on here who have only seen a Glock in the movies.

Oh he still probably holds them by the tail which is how he was tagged. Probably the best thing to happen to him financially was being bit in India and not at his house. The the guy with the tats, Tyler got bit by a king and still free handles snakes.

never been close enough to see and I don't want to learn how to but what keeps the snake on the hook when it's picked up?

Backwards. It is

Red touch black; safe for Jack,
Red touches yellow; kills a fellow.

It isn’t always as easy as it looks. Some just chill out and it’s easy to hold the tail and keep the front end out of the way with the hook, but some get antsy and keep coming off.

They tend to revert to somewhat of an S-shape, so if you get the hook into a curl about 1/3 of the way down the body and support the tail with your hand, that’ll usually keep them there. But with that nearly 6 foot Western diamondback I posted, he was so thick and heavy that gravity won out and I couldn’t keep him on the hook. Free handling was actually easier.

I’m a little further back than normal with the hook with him just because he’s so heavy in the midsection. Something that heavy isn’t going to be real comfortable sitting on the hook, so it chilled out a lot more being supported by my hands. It’s just less pressure on its body.

The trick with free handling is to support enough of the body to keep the snake comfortable. If you only hold the tail, the snake is just naturally going to want to come back up - like this….

But once you support the body, they’ll settle down, like this…

The downside to this, obviously, is that now you’re in striking distance. It’s just the risk you decide to accept.

Handling a giant King that was in shed with its eyes blued.

I know they handled that snake all the time and were familiar with it, but that was just dumb. He lucked out with the cop being down the road and having their own antivenom.

Exactly. “Safe” (relatively speaking) free-handling comes down to the snake’s attitude.
