I would like for LSU / govt to really revamp the walkways from campus to Tigerland…

Brighter lighting, and full pathways w/ wrought iron fencing along the paths….

Since I was in college, that stretch has always been unsafe.

Was there for parents night this weekend and walking back to car down nicolson definitely felt unsafe. I’m shocked there aren’t more accidents in the area

I park in lot 404 and live in Geismar so I drive that way to go home after games. It’s crazy the amount of people walking all the way to freaking brightside. I don’t remember that 20-30 years ago. And I always see a girl or 2 walking alone as far down as Ben Hur or further. That’s nuts. I can’t believe nobody has come up with a plan to revitalize this area. But we rebuilding sidewalks on plank rd like it’s the most important thing ever

I’m sorry we can’t do that. Florida Boulevard needs so needs those sidewalks

I know from visiting, that other SEC campuses have MUCH safer / brighter paths to walk from the stadium to parking areas…. LSU needs to do something

Need to tell the “Voice of the Tigers” Dixon — to bring this up in legislation

The area around Tigerland isnt LSUs problem to fix

Talk to BR govt

But they would rather spend money on sidewalks in north BR than in tax revenue generating areas around the only thing in BR keeping it from being Jackson MS

I think a better question is with all the expansion around LSU and with all of the growth in BR, generally, how Tigerland is still the main option

New buildings go up, parking lots disappear.

Just look at Google Earth and you'll see how much parking LSU has lost since the late 90's.

Are they really wasting money rebuilding sidewalks on plank? Thats the last place they need to put money in.

I'm sure there's a reason, but the fact there's not at least one walkway over Nicholson is crazy to me. The only thing I can think of is 18-wheelers coming down 30 (Nicholson) using that route to get to I-10.

I noticed that as well. It’s weird. I lived in Sharlo back in the late nineties. We would have never considered walking to the stadium much less Tigerland, and it was safe back then.

I posted this in the other thread, but it’s more appropriate here:

LSU is going to have to build a pedestrian bridge over hwy 30 and the train tracks when the new Basketball Arena is built. I don’t know why they haven’t built one by the stadium yet. Maybe there’s some restrictions on state highways??

They could build a sidewalk on LSU property all the way to Fred’s

The railroad is the biggest issue, but certainly could be done. There’s not really a singular location where one would get used regularly though.

There really needs to be a district full of bars in a better location that students go to. Until then you’ll just have Fred’s printing money with their tents in the ghetto, because that’s all the students have.

at that time it was also "ok" to do a little driving after drinking.

Since it's a state highway, I think contacting the state rep (State Rep Barbara Freiberg) for that area may be more effective. If enough people flood her office with calls and emails she may be able to work with the Gov on getting something done sooner rathern that later.

I could be completely wrong, so someone correct me. My understanding is they were walking south (away from Tiger Land), on the shoulder of Nicholson between Tiger Land and Lee Dr. when they were hit. There is a pretty large sidewalk there, but yes it’s very dark down that stretch.
