Sadly that's the truth. I was born and raised in Ruston and I thought it was the biggest shithole known to mankind when I was a teenager.
I'd never traveled this State extensively until my early 30's when I got a job that required it and man it was an eye opener. I never knew how lucky I was. There's so many depressing towns in Louisiana that I couldn't name them all. However, in my opinion, I don't think any town could top Lake Providence in East Carroll Parish. Ruston is one of the nicest towns in Louisiana. Easily top 5. You could make a case for it being #1.

I just spent 5 years in Douala Cameroon with previous stops in Port Harcourt Nigeria and Luanda Angola. Shitholes are my specialty.
