I don't get it either.
When I was around 11 years old I saw "To Hell and Back" for the first time, then I read the book. He's been one of my heroes ever since then. When I visited Washington, D.C. when I was 14, I made it a point to visit his grave at Arlington. Later on I found out we were fourth cousins or something.
