That's kinda what's happening in Ohio. It will make for an interesting case study for future legislation.
They are basically creating an oligopoly, allowing only 10 distributors across the state. You are however, allowed to grow 4 plants for personal use at home.
The reason they have been able to get over 400,000 signatures and the backing that they have, is because of the money from these investors.

quote:I think it's the opposite. This is a watered-down version of MMJ that only got traction because one of the main players in the Sheriff's association knew some little girl that had a bad disease and needed it. Yeah, a-hole...because all of those other people's stories weren't legitimate. It's only an issue when it affects you. Anyway, I think this does just enough so the conservatives that will always run Louisiana can say, "What? We legalized medical marijuana. We're good guys. It doesn't need to go any further." That's why, despite supporting full legalization, I am against this bill. It's chickenshit, and largely symbolic.
it is a first step...they're putting down the infrastructure with this bill imo

Probably 5-7 years before Louisiana will have recreational shops. We'll be one of the last states to fully legalize
Gonna be a long long time. 5 to 7 is wishful thinking.
They don't even want med patients to have the real thing.

<5 years for the majority of states.
More conservative states probably 8 years.

It is to legalization what receiving .25 an hour is to a raise.

its going to be like dominos after 2016. By 2016, we could top 10 states where its legal. Neighbor states will fold quickly when they see lost tax revenue. Supposedly MO might vote to legalize in 2016. This will be basically a funnel into the south. I am sure LA, AL, and MS will hold out but KY will flip quickly so will NC, FL, and GA.
in 10 years, the only states where it will be illegal will be UT, and maybe AL.

It's crazy how in louisiana you can get life for a possession charge with a Pryor.
Posted on 6/4/15 at 4:49 pm to SEClint
A Terrelle Pryor? Or a Richard Pryor?
Posted on 6/4/15 at 4:53 pm to KosmoCramer
Obviously a Terrell Pryor.

Anyway, like I said 4 weeks ago, this medical marihuana bill is the weakest legalization effort of any state yet.
It's going to severely restrict doctors for what they can prescribe weed for but you can prescribe narcotics for about 200 times as many afflictions.

Yeah, far more dangerous narctorics with very high rates of addiction, which in turn lead to heroin usage.

Bobby needs all the votes he can get.

I hope you're right. But I have a sneaking suspicion that if a establishment republican wins the presidential election we will see a drastically different approach to MJ at the federal level.

I dunno, Texas just passed one that appears even more useless. Non-THC CBD oil for a select few diseases, won't be implemented til 2018, requires a prescription (illegal under federal law or at least something doctors are uncomfortable doing) from a neurologist and only after all other treatments have failed. So yeah.

if 10 states have legalized it, I doubt they do much about it. Cause, you know small gov't and laboratories of democracy.
seriously I doubt they do much. SCOTUS may smack it down this summer but I doubt it.

Why do you doubt it? Chris Christie already came out saying he'd shite the states down. GOP cares about states rights and small government only when it comes to certain things.

Are you referring to the lawsuit from Nebraska and Oklahoma against Colorado?
If so, there's a pretty good chance they'll deny cert.
