The covid relief plan is going to cause more harm to race relations and the agriculture community than anyone realizes.

And the farmer that filed suit - he better be ready because the main steam media is about to go through every second of his life looking for that racist moment, word, etc.

What is the specific discrimination here that they're referencing? Is it that they didn't get loans because their credit was shite? If so, I don't think that's "racial discrimination".

How can you say you were discriminated against if you got the loan in the first place????

At issue is a $4 billion program tucked into the Biden administration's COVID-19 stimulus plan that forgives loans for farmers and ranchers who are black, native American, Hispanic, or Asian - but not those who are white.

How is there $4 billion worth of loans to forgive to black farmers

My wife works in Ag lending. It was estimated that they will lose 10 million from their loan portfolio just from Mississippi alone.

It should be against the law to favor one race over another.

There have been USDA programs for years that are specifically geared towards minorities, new farmers, and those below the poverty line. Farmer John that's been farming 20 years and makes a decent living doesn't get special treatment from the government.

The loan forgiveness for a specific group and only that group is ridiculous, but I guarantee you this guy and anyone else involved in this lawsuit knows this isn't a new thing in the government.

Just more signs of systematic racism.

Surely this violates the equal protections clause or some other clause right?

The irony of it is that the special emphasis only exists today because those groups were discriminated against in the past for those same programs.

In case anyone is curious here is the specific goal of the 2020 USDA Budget concerning farm loans. Pay particular attention to the last sentence:

But go look at the provisions of farm loans and you will understand why. They are made for producers that cannot secure loans from any other financial institution. Not to mention the fact that most of them are very targeted and not open to just anyone. Most of the farmers that fall into those categories are individuals that have no history in agriculture to begin with, which is what most farm loan programs are built around (getting people into farming). No bank is going to finance a farming operation with no history, so money becomes a barrier to entry.

So, most of the programs aren't made for established producers. Since the overwhelming majority of farmers are white and come from a line of family farmers, it's pretty clear why most of the loans aren't going to them.

Veterans actually receive very little help from farm programs unless they meet other criteria as well (such as socially disadvantaged or beginning farmer). So of that 80%, most if not all of them are beginning farmer and/or socially disadvantaged.

Only in today’s backwards world would this statement be considered racist.

Of course loans won't go to primarly established farmers.

Make no mistake about it, though, established farmers have no shortage of ways to get money. Just because it isn't called a "loan" doesn't mean they aren't getting plenty of government support.

You don't have to tell me...lol!

They are some of the hardest working people I know, but some farmers depend on that government check like it's welfare. It's absolutely the most mind-boggling thing I've ever experienced.

There are loans out there specifically for minorities to help them get into farming. All the govt is doing now is forgiving the loan based on race that they originally gave based on race

Double-super racism.
