LAFOURCHE PARISH DECLARES A STATE OF EMERGENCY
Mathews, LA – Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph declared a State Of Emergency as of 12 noon today, Monday, January 27.
The National Weather Service has reported that Lafourche Parish will experience a winter storm with all forms of winter precipitation. Ice accumulation is a significant risk for roadways and electrical lines.
Lafourche Parish Government Offices will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Garbage pickup in Lafourche Parish will also be canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday, but routes will be made up later in the week.
Lafourche Parish Government advises local non-essential businesses to close during this winter weather event due to possible icy roadway conditions. Employees that are on site may have to remain until road conditions improve.
Lafourche Parish Department of Public Works will be monitoring all bridges for ice and are prepared to sand bridges as road conditions allow, but closures will be likely. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will be monitoring highways for traffic and potential ice.
Residents are reminded to respect all road closures and police barricades and to drive with extreme caution and reduce speeds if you must be on the roads. Black ice is a significant concern; please stay off the roads during this winter storm. Weather updates can be found on the parish website and Facebook pages.
