LSU will absolutely be forced to lower its admission standards if TOPS goes away because they will be scrambling to attract students due the financial losses that TOPS will create.

Not necessarily. Per capita La spends more per student on education than Co, NC, and TX. Why do they have better schools? Thats not on the taxpayer.

An individual students education and value of education is made at home if its not valued there La can double its per capita spending and it wont make any headway.

Southern in Baton Rouge needs to be turned into a driving range.

False. Not everyone is great at standardize tests. I do agree that way too much money is wasted on kids trying to find themselves or just using college as a 1-5 year party. I have no problem with kids not qualifying for TOPS if they don't meet the requirements, but I do think their should be a tuition reimbursement for those that have low test scores coming out of high school, but maintain a 3.25 or better

At many HBCUs, the average ACT is around 18.

This is basically me as well. I took the test only once and scored a 21. I didn't take any classes before hand to help me prep for the exam. My parents couldn't afford it. I was on the Dean's List almost every semester in undergrad, earned an academic scholarship at the beginning of my sophomore year, and graduated in Electrical Engineering. A standardized test doesn't prove shite in regards to how successful you'll be in college. Half of the top ten kids in my class who scored 30 or higher dropped out of college. Success in college is completely center around the drive of the individual. If that person is driven to want to become successful and graduate, they will do well no matter what their score is.

I'm all for anything that consolidates or closes unnecessary 4 year public universities. We have way to many for the size of our state and they are a drain on the state resources.

shite, we have all of these 4-year universities and none of them taught you the difference between "to, too and two".

We have failed.

They Aren't relying on TOPS, are they?

Maybe I should have said "people with sub-20 ACT scores shouldn't be getting scholarships based on acedemics."

Yea...besides ULM's bass fishing team, I don't think this is going to affect real athletics very much.

God forbid we use programs that we pay for. Do you actually think that the people you are defending pay for this program?

Be careful what you ask for, those students would have to go elsewhere.

This is an interesting stat. And I'd like to see the percentage of that money in La that gets taken off the top and goes to 'administration' or 'studies' and things of that nature and what actually makes it down to the student.... I'd bet the bank La has higher percentage of administration fees

Why? If they don't qualify then why should they go to college and make degrees more worthless?
