Will the 737 Max ever fly on a revenue route again?

Since it was too costly to redesign the underbelly of the plane to rework the landing gear and move the engines back to the right position under the wing (instead of forward of the wing), Boeing designed a lame software "solution" to tip the nose of the plane down to compensate for the naturally "nose up" handling of the 737-Max.

They've taken a fundamentally strong design and stretched/modified/pushed it beyond the limit.

I am starting to think that the 737 Max will not be flown on a revenue route in 2020 - perhaps not ever again.

To those of you more tapped into the aviation industry - do you think that 737 Max will return to revenue service?

I have a hard time believing that they'll ever get anyone to fly on one, or airlines to order them in its current iteration. You're going to have to change the branding. I listened to an episode of The Daily the other day with a former quality control manager from the Charleston factory that was talking about all of the negligence going back to even the 787. Boeing has a serious problem and I hope they're able to rectify it before it sinks them.

Well, they've already stopped production, so the likelihood of them flying again is probably pretty slim

Whatever they call it, unless they mix in another line with it, it will still be known as the "old 800-MAX".

So not sure if that helps.

Perhaps Amazon buys all of them at a discount and gets them converted to cargo planes.

I agree

With how quickly you can get info today with the internet it’s going to be rather difficult to hide the fact that you are scheduling a flight in a 737 MAX simply by changing its name.

I'm not sure of all the financials, and I'm sure it would upset the shareholders, but I think the proper course of action might be to come out and say, "Hey, we screwed up, and instead of building a new airframe from the ground up and delaying production, we tried to put a square peg in a round hole with the engines and it didn't work. We're going to build a new plane and not cut any corners." Or something to that effect. Because, yeah, people are still going to know what they're flying on even after a rebrand unless they're ignorant or just don't care. Boeing might even be relying on that.

I'm sure the diversity that Boeing is so proud of now will be a major asset whatever direction they go...

It's really tragic incompetence on Boeing's part: Just a few short years ago Boeing had Airbus in a stranglehold and had largely put the A380 out of business with the 787 Dreamliner. They squandered the frick out of all of their momentum by having filthy bean counting twat waffle scum instead of real engineers running things. I have always in the past had faith in Boeing and I still continue to hope they will right the ship (pun intended), but they are making me nervous.

So a Lion Air plane crashes and an Ethiopian plane crashes, and now all of a sudden the plane is unflyable forever? I'd rather fly a current Max by an American then fly an Airbus by a Lion Air pilot.

I think Boeing most likely puts this behind them in 2020. Maybe they figure out a fix or maybe they go back to an improved older model I don't know? Maybe they simply sell the Max's to domestic carriers only for awhile with proven pilots and have some dumb downed version for crappy foreign airlines.

Id fly on one. Bunch of pussies on here.

FAA will scrutinize this more than any plane in history before it flies again
